tow ring for hitch

I wanted something for my receiver. Choices included:

-warn shackle ($85Cdn + wait for it to be ordered)
-hitch step ($120Cdn and up)
-light

The warn shackle was very nice, and could come in handy. It would be required during a trip with a local off-road group (I'm hoping to join the next ride). But it was very expensive in my mind.

The hitch step was also expensive, and is slightly larger to store while towing.

I could not find a simple light for the 2" receiver that didn't have some "big-3" logo.

Then I settled on this tow ring. It sort of functions as a 'step' for 1 foot, it was $30Cdn, and is rated for 10,000 lbs. It is similar to the warn shackle, but not as nice. I keep 2 anchor shackles + 1 nylon recovery strap so I should be good to go. They also had a "hook" but I thought a ring is a bit more secure if you are actually using it for recovery. It can be mounted horiz or vert.

Yes princess auto it is. "Powerfist" is the name brand.

The rust is not attractive, but I'm trying to ignore it. That was working until you drew so much attention to it! :) I have some metal paint...hmm...

and then I added this. :)

What was the procedure for the hitch paint? Sand off loose rust, prime, paint?

I have the insert, but i was ready for a change.
