Tow strap and shackles on ebay

I thought some of you guys might be interested in this.

ebay auctions

This guy seems to have a bunch of recovery stuff for a good price. I bought a set of 2 10k lb straps and 2 shackles for $28 shipped. He's got a few left and some other stuff.

I have no interest of any kind in the sales other than having gotten a good deal on some recovery stuff and wanted to pass along the info to fellow 4runner owners.

I've been looking for shackles and tow straps for a while and they're pretty expensive. when I came across these for $28 shipped, I jumped on them. Now that I have them in hand, I thought I'd share my findings since this guy is selling a bunch of stuff for cheap and he ships quickly.
 
Now I just need to get a block of metal to drill out to mount in my receiver to use the shackle with. I already removed one of the tie down rings (whatever they are called) from the left side of the truck in the rear and tapped/attached a new recovery hook. What a PITA to try to get the tap to bite straight!

I want to have many possible attachment options so I can choose which is best in any given situation.
 
So... If I buy one of those tow straps with the shackle.. what else do I need to buy? the hitch thingy?
 
No, as the shackle allows you to attach the recovery strap to your vehicle tie downs. There have been some questions as to just how much they can take though, which is why most people attach it to the hitch using that solid square of metal.
 
Found another gem on ebay.

This is a 2" hitch and shackle for $30. There's 17 left. Total for me was $42 shipped. I should be getting it today.

Come up to Paragon. There's a group ride on May 7th and 8th (mother's day). I'm thinking about going on the 7th to scout the place for a east coast meet.

He doesn't say much about it, but he makes a big deal out of it not being a Warn shackle -- do you see a problem with it? Any specs to provide since the seller didn't?

e-mailed the seller and he responded very quickly. It's a private label brand.

He has it for less on his web site $35.98 including shipping anywhere in the US (e-Bay would be a bit over $40 with shipping for Parcel post, higher if you use Priority mail: http://www.theusedjeep.com/index1.html
 
By the way, Bobby - thanks for pointing these out. I bought the straps and shackles. Looks like all that's left is the receiver shackle. Thinking seriously about getting the same the one you bought.
 
It's a lot bigger than I thought. It's hollow but the metal is about 1/4" thick so I don't think I'll have any problems with it. I test fit it into the receiver and it fits pretty good. I haven't used it so I can't say how well it works but it's definitely a beefy receiver hitch.

I originally bid on another one but the guy's paypal address was no longer valid and he didn't respond to my e-mails so I bid on this one. I was looking for something under $40 but $43 wasn't too bad and I'm happy with it. The guy shipped it out fast but didn't e-mail me saying it shipped out until a day before I got it which isn't really a big deal. For $36, it's worth getting. I think it's a well made product.
