Towing a camper questions.

Hey folks I haven't been on in a while but I new ya'll could help. I have the 07Sport with V6 and a curt 7000 lb reciever and and 600 lb tounge weight 2" ball hitch.

Wife decided she wanted a camper and it took about 3 months to find one. We bought a 2006 Jayco jayfeather ultralight 165 with an empty weight of 2781 lbs and a tounge weght of 405 lbs and a gvwr of 3500 lbs.

The camper is clearly under the capacity of the V6 model and the hitch but:

I would like advice on rear airbags, stiffer springs or alternatives. I have XREAS and a Daystar 2.5-1.5 and like it for now. It had a little sag when hooked up to the camper on the ride home after purchase. We plan to travel 4 hrs in October with the T4R and Jayco. We towed it camping with my 07 DMAX {PPE chipped} last weekend and you know that was easy but want to be able to tow with the T4R.

I would also like to know if I have a factory oil or tranny cooler and if not info on installing them. I know some of you have done this but some have it factory?

And any advice or issues you have come across towing with your T4R.

PS. I had the T4R tranny replace at 40k miles with a reman under warranty and I am out of warrnaty now and the dealer showed a coast of $3500 to replace if not under warranty. I would rather avoid that cost if possible. I am now just over 70k miles.

Anyhow, there is not an external Tranny Cooler on the V6. Only the V8. You can find info on adding one here:

You might want to get a scangauge just so you can keep an eye on your tranny temps. Maybe even invest in one of those first - you may have no need for an external cooler. Although I'd understand if you wanted to add one regardless.

Thanks for the reply's!! Those links led to link after link and I have more reading to do. I just looked under the hood to find that I have a factory Tranny cooler in the radiator. I see no signs of an oil cooler {could have missed it}. Is the tranny cooler in the radiator sufficient? That's what I have to decide before making the decision to go with and external tranny cooler. Any one else out there that tows regularly with the v6?

I would recommend you install an aux trans cooler to help keep trans temps within acceptable ranges. The factory cooler in the radiator won't be able to keep trans temps down, especially if towing up hills. There are several good threads on aux cooler installs. I added a Hayden cooler to my '03, and I tow a camper much larger than you have. So far, I haven't had any problems.
