Towing...An Old Cadillac Ambulance

What is the maximum safe towing capacity for a 3rd gen 4runner SR5, bone stock 3.4 engine w/ 4 spd auto? I need to move a 3.5 ton cadillac ambulance from the person I'm buying it from's house to mine, anout 5 miles distant. The owner was suggesting chaining the ambulance to my frame, and just have someone in the ambulance steering and braking. This would all be low speeds of course. Could I do this without frying my 4runners drivetrain?

5,000 lbs is the max towing capacity.

i would not suggest towing 7000lbs with you 4runner.and if you were to do so, I would NOT suggest chaining it to your frame. rent a truck

5 mile is fine on LOCAL roads where you can do like 10mph. Your drive train will be fine, put it in low.

I would guess you would be ok for such a short LOW speed distance, I would purchase a dolly though. I would not chain it to your frame.

The other option instead of trying to pull it yourself and risk breaking something , call a tow service and have it brought over to your house. It may cast a few bucks , but you could easily do that in damage to your 4R.

Funny you mention there is an old Caddy hearse near my house I've been talking the wife into buying , but she does not want a hearse sitting on our driveway. I would guess it's mid-late 50's . She said find someplace else to put it if you get it.

I tried to tell her that once it's fixed up she would look so cool driving it to work. Needless to say .... you know the look I got.

I guess it's 5,000 lbs only. I also suggest that you just try & rent a truck. Don't abuse your machine too much.
