Towing Converter Relay

Anyone know what this relay does? I did a search in the 4th Gen forum already but nothing specific to this came up. It's behind the left rear cargo panel just ahead of the jack. I have a Chilton's but the wiring diagram doesn't show anything. Probably something to do with trailer lights

How did I discover this relay? Well, the mounting tab broke off (?) and was dangling there, making a "knock, knock, knock" sound against the body every time I went over bumps, driving me nuts.

Fortunately, this relay has two other mounting tabs for mounting in different positions for different applications. So I just re-snapped it back onto the bracket (after pulling the interior panel off, of course) in a different position.

Looking at the wiring diagram, I don't see a towing relay, just the standard trailer light converter, which is probably what you're talking about.

"Relay, Towing Converter" is exactly what Toyota calls it, not me. It even says it on the housing. I haven't seen the 2009 service manual wiring diagram so I'll assume that's what it is.
