Towing... For a newbie

So I have a 06 v8 and I wanted to tow my car with the 4runner. I did some research and found that this should be doable.

Granted I never towed anything f before..


My 4runner came with the factory tow carrier and I bought a 2" drop hitch bracket w a 2? Or 2 1/2"? Ball. I need to use a flatbed style towing since the car I want to tow is a 01 is300 rwd.

The uhaul trailer I wanted to rent is about 2.2k lbs but when I went on their site it wouldn't let me reserve it because it said this combination is not recommended.

Does this mean I can't tow a car and car trailer with my setup?

You're towing capacity is 7000+ lbs which will be more than enough for the 2200 lb trailer and 3200lb IS300. I've towed my is350 with the GX470 (same motor and all) and it does just fine. You'll want some sort of trailer brake though, the uhaul ones may come with a hydraulic setup.

Nice choice in cars, btw, that is300 has always been a sweet little number.

UHaul is very anal about what they rent out. You may have to go to the U-Haul dealer directly. They want to make sure you're not towing more then what the truck can handle. They will probably require you to sign something saying that if you tow more then a certain weight..they won't be responsible for any problems.

The is300 is getting put together w a th400 and a 76mm turbo soon as I'm done putting these bad boys on my s4- tial 770

Was gonna put an exhaust, cai on the 4runner but couldn't justify the cost vs increase so it will stay stock.

You'll be fine towing wise, as long as you're careful and make wide turns! Just keep an eye on the trailer to make sure it isn't doing anything funky. Good luck with the tow!

I suggest getting some practice in prior to acquiring your car.

It's amazing the extra space you need in order to compensate for an extra 15 feet hanging off the back of your tow vehicle.

If you are exiting from, say, a side street, start your turns from the widest side.

For example:

Right hand turns, you will want to hang as far to the left in your lane as you can. The opposite for left hand turns.

so went to 2 uhaul and they both said the gross vehicle weight will not support towing for that car. Maybe I should try to say I'm towing a geo metro?

The weight of the your 4runner..the trailer and the weight of the car could very well exceed the Gross vehicle you want to tow.

You say you NEED a flat bed because it's rwd. If you disconnect the drive-shaft I'm pretty sure you can tow it safely with just the front wheels.
