Towing - MPG

Hi. Have a 2000 4wd SR5. Need to do some pretty serious towing (am going to about max out towing capacity -- trailer weighs 4k) and wondered what I could expect from my MPG. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

i dont usually tow that much. the way I drive i get 12mpg constantly. towing or not.

I am thinking 12 mpg might be about right, maybe slightly lower, like 10. On my trailer, it weighs 2,200 pounds and I get 15.5 to 16.5 miles per gallon. I usually get a little over 20 when I am on the highway, so that is about a 4 to 5 mpg drop. Your about double my weight at 4,000 pounds, so my guess is 10 to 12 MPG.

i pulled a 4300 lb trailer halfway across the country and averaged 11.2 mpg for the whole trip.
i hope you're ready to drive slow. i was just using the standard ball hitch (no stabilizer bars or anything like that) and when i got near 60 mph the trailer started shaking from side to side. i was afraid of ending up with the trailer passing me as i spun out of control.
at 55 mph things went fairly well.
also...going up hill you will get passed by people on bicycles. not fun.

Thank you for all the help! We are, indeed, ready to drive slow. I was figuring that our speed would top out at about 60/65 -- but if it's 55, then so be it. As for hills.. I guess I will wave to the bicycles as they pass, LOL.

I guess once we get to where we are going, I will post MPG and such.
