camping pop-up

I've towed a friends small pop-up camping trailer. Once we had the thing fully loaded I think we were close to 3000 or 3500 lbs. Pulling it was fine on relatively flat terrain but once we hit the mountains the speed really dropped off. I guess that's to be expected.

any experience with towing?

I have been labeled a nervous nelly before about towing and would advise against this.

Yes your Runner can handle the load fine. Presuming you stay well under the limits of the weight ratings.

You are lifted-the Runner has a short-"ish" wheelbase. The brakes are not particularly great (opinions vary and upgrades yes are possible-stick with me guys).

If you have never towed before I would not recommend a Runner to be your learning tow rig. If you have done it before you will likely be just fine. Electronic brake controllers would be a wise buy.

Occasional towing-again likely just fine.

Length of the towed vehicle also comes into play. Tongue weight and so on. Towing can be dangerous-be sure you know and understand the physics at play.

You get a lot of wet roads down there -
please be careful out there.

We have done a lot of towing with our V-6. We have pulled a 6x10 enclosed trailer (~3500 lbs) from Minnesota to Colorado (through the mountains) without trailer brakes. The truck works hard but she does a good job. You really need to work the gears coming down the passes. Last summer, we towed our travel trailer (~3500lbs) from Minnesota to points all over the Rockies. Our camper does have trailer brakes and they are really nice to have. Since we are pushing it with this truck I added a tranny cooler and I use a sway control when towing these heaver loads. In high winds or steep grades, I need to kick it down to 3rd or even 2nd gear sometimes. My Toyotas have never let me down, so don't be afraid to push em!

That being said I finally pulled the trigger on a '07 V-8, since we do so much towing. I pick it up this weekend. It should be better yet!

I pulled our older coleman tent trailer from california to oregon with no problems of any kind. We were loaded pretty good and never had any braking problems going down any grades. I had a supercharger installed at the time which helped out quite a bit. I have towed it without the s/c and it towed fine as well. I have 33" tires and have regeared to 4.56's
