towing with Cruise

In two weeks I am moving my gf from WV to SC. I will be towing a 6'X12" Uhaul trailer. This is my first time towing with the 4runner and I wanted to know if using cruise control while towing is ok?

If you are on a flat (aka level) surface for many miles in an area without too much traffic, you should be fine. Cruise control will maintain speed (or attempt to anyways) and will downshift to accomplish that task. Too much downshifting and you are putting unnecessary wear and tear on your tranny.

Just make sure you use the 2nd gear from the top when cruising. I'll assume you have a 5 sp. trans. in which case you should use 4th gear. The torque converter will still lock up preventing overheating, and you will get better engine braking efficiency compared to using "D". But like dude said, take over yourself if the tranny constantly gear hunts for long periods.

If it's downshifting too much, just drop it down a gear manually regardless of if you're on cruise or not. Maybe not the best for mileage, but it'll hold speed better save your tranny from hunting around excessively.

I agree that I would only use cruise towing if it's level, straight and dry. Given those conditions, shouldn't be a big deal to give the right foot a rest.
