Yeo you should be good. The 3rd gen has a 5000lb tow rating and i really really really hope that your friends Jetta doesn't weigh that much. :biggrin2:

Yes you will be able to tow a Jetta with your t4r. I have a Jetta that I have towed several times with my runner. Once in a pinch I also towed a minivan about 40 miles after it broke and my friend had no way to get it home.

The biggest problems with towing with our runners are the narrow wheelbase and not so beefy rear suspension. It can make them a little wobbly but as long as you are keeping safety in mind, and not trying to go too fast you will be just fine.

Driving as if you're trying to hypermile while towing is a good idea. Most of the grunt is incurred when taking off from a dead stop. If you can keep it rolling it's a lot easier on your truck.

I'll give you my standard answer to this question ...

1550 mile tow, through the mountains in the snow. You'll be fine with the little Jetta.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I told my buddy that I'd be willing to tow him if he wanted.....just waiting for him to let me know. He's planning on renting a UHaul dolly, so that I can tow him to his shop 30km's away. His Jetta has been giving him issues, with no starts, and he's planning on throwing a TDI engine into it. Should be doing it on Saturday.....if he doesn't find someone else to do it before then.
