Towing with V6 update + wiring problem

I must admit - had no idea my V6 would do so good! I only pulled the boat about 15 miles so far but it feels really stable, plenty of power, the brakes worked great, and on the HWY got up to 15.5 GPM before I had to turn off. I am sure it will go even higher as the average kept climbing until I turned off.
Now to my problem - the trailer had the standard flat 4 pin connector and the tow hitch had a 7 pin multi use plug in. Looking under the truck, I could see Toyota never connected this to my wiring harness under the truck. I found two connections coming from the truck one was a longer slender connection the other was a 4 wire connection which fit the connection on the hitch. I also purchased a 7/4 adapter. The brakes work and turn signals but not the running lights. These are brand new lights on the trailer and they told me they had tested the lights and they worked fine. Had a sister-in-law with an SR5 Prerunner and had problems with wiring up a u-hual. Seems like Toyota has alot of issues with the wiring. Any ideas on how to get the running lights working? I can attach pics if anyone wants to take a look see.

Something sounds funny about your wiring... A couple of pics might help.

Wait a minute...you said the brakes and signals work? Your boat trailer has brakes and a 4-pin connector? If so, then I know what your problem is. You only have enough pins for the following:

Brakes
Left Turn (and hazard/brake lt.)
Right Turn (and hazard/brake lt.)
Ground

You would need at least a 5-pin to accommodate tails. Most 4-pin connectors are wired for tails, but not brakes.

Now, if the trailer doesn't have brakes, and you were referring to brake LIGHTS, then I would recommend jumpering from a hot 12v pin on the truck to the taillight pin on the trailer to see if the tails work at all. If not, the issue is on the trailer (anywhere from the plug to the bulbs...perhaps they aren't dual-filament bulbs like they should be?).

But if they do work this way, you'll need to do a little detective work on the truck's plug with a 12v tester to see which pin supplies 12v+ (and turns it off) with the running lights.
