The dealer told me that the Toyota 0w-20 is made by mobil, assuming they were right, do you think it is the same as the Mobil1 0w-20, or is it a different blend?

Definitely a different color. The Toyota 0w-20 oil is alot darker then the Mobil 1 0w-20 as I've used both already. The Mobil 1 is almost clear.

I don't believe 90% of what a dealer/saleman tells me anyways as they tend to dabble in the fine art of BS.

yeah, I'm with you on believing everything they say, it's hard to tell half the time. I suppose the only way to tell if they are the same would be doing an oil analysis. I'm sure Toyota could have it blended to their specs, I was just curious if anybody knew for sure.

My parts guy said "bottled by Mobil", which is not the same as "Mobil1 Synthetic". That said, the dealers who have the 0W-20 Synthetic in bulk containers connected to the oil guns are getting it from a producer who can meet the same ASE standards. If it's not Mobil making it, it's probably one of the other brand names.

VOA's on the BITOG website says it's not M1. Higher moly. This is for the Black bottled US oil. I haven't found a VOA on the bulk stuff. Lots of info to sift thru if you've got the time.

I have a friend who hooked me up with a deal on like 30 cases of Valvoline 0w20 so that is what I will be using. If anyone is in the Memphis area I have some that I can let go pretty cheap.

Dealer told me the same thing. Said "I think, I am pretty sure it's made by Mobil 1". Haven't compared the colors and such but if they are a different color then something is different and it's not off the shelf Mobil 1 syn.
