Toyota 4runner 2011 Install Navigation System

I need some help. I have a 4runner 2011 with Non JBL stereo system. I bought the OEM Navigation radio and the OEM amplifier. But i dont have either wiring to install the system. How i install the OEM navi system and the Oem amplifier? Where i can find the wiring (cables) between the Radio Unit and the amplifier?

im pretty sure the wiring harnesses are different, for the non JBL system vs the JBL system. That being said, surely you could buy them. There is a sticky thread in at the top of the 5th gen section that has someone posted the repair manuals for the 5th gen. There should be wiring diagrams in there. Also, look up the aftermarket stereo thread,

First, welcome to the forum. Second, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the NAV systems and non-NAV systems have a completely different wiring harness. As Johnny pointed out, there is a thread here with the wiring diagrams and such. NAV systems are installed at the plant in japan, and not at the port. Also, you didn't mention if your 4runner is an SR5, Limited, or Trail. I know for sure that the SR5 isn't wired for the NAV system, and I'm pretty certain the Trail and Limited aren't either unless you specifically have that option at the factory. You'd be better off buying an aftermarket system, trying to make that thing work with what you have is possible (anything is possible, after all), albeit probably very expensive.

I would not go as far as the previous posters will. The manual will be helpful of course, but what does the nav unit really need?

Power
Ignition/ACC status
Light status/dimmer
Speaker connections - FR FL RR RL Sub, maybe crossovers somewhere
Radio Antenna
Sat Antenna
GPS Antenna
Backup cam signal

Given that the JBL is tightly integrated, it's probably attached to the CAN bus somewhere to get the mpg feed and mileage feeds.

Your system will have all but the GPS antenna, backup cam (since that runs to your mirror, although someone found the signal wire under the dash to connect to), and the CAN bus feed.

Will it work without some of the feeds? Good question.

If possible, see if you can get the previous owners' plugs that went to the back to the units with wire leads hanging out. That makes it much easier.

It would take some big bucks and take the truck almost completely apart as it doesn't have the right wiring harness.

When I say it doesn't have the right wiring harness I don't mean just some wires with connectors that can be bought just for the JBL system as compared to the non JBL wiring. These wires are woven in to a main wiring harness that branches out thru the whole truck and is put in place before anything else goes in at the assembly line.

I'm sure it could be made to work with custom wiring by a electronic guru but would be one hell of a lot of work,time and money.
 
I think, the only diference between de Non Navi system and the navi system is the the Pin that control de output to the speaker. The Navi system is not Auto-Amplifier.

4Runner Navigation Conversion

Hi all,
About 2 weeks ago, I purchased a 2011 4Runner Trail, and since then, I've been pretty unhappy with the factory non navigation radio (especially the extremely poor Bluetooth connectivity). So I called the dealer, and they told me to contact this aftermarket company in town w,,ho apparently does Toyota specific modifications, such as fabric to leather conversions, heated seats, and, specifically, factory radio changes. So, for about a third of the price of the dealer parts counter, they are going to send a toyota certified installer to my driveway, and upgrade the system, to include the JBL items like the amplifier. It was supposed to be done yesterday (Thursday), however, apparently they have to have Toyota make a custom non-JBL to JBL wiring harness that will specifically allow the conversion. So now it is scheduled for this coming Friday. At $1950, I really think this has to be a steal; plus, it should be pretty crazy to actually watch this guy do all this work right in my driveway. I will follow up on here once the installation is complete to fill in about how well this worked!

I guess I spoke incorrectly, my apologies. You are right JD, the connectivity is phenomenal. What I am not happy with is how unlike most vehicle bluetooth systems, which use your phone's phonebook and speech program, this headunit will only allow 10 numbers to be stored in the phone, and the procedures to add a number are (in my opinion) a bit tedious. Also, for example, I stored a number, and stated the person's name, but the display continues to show "No Name" and the number. I've used the navigation system in an 07 Tundra with my same phone, and it automatically syncs its phonebook to my phone's phonebook as part of the pairing process. Again, my apologies for being mispoken in my last post.

All Parts counters tell me that it isn't available for purchase. I see on this thread that it can be purchased separately...can you please tell me where/how you purchase this? Also, if you could provide any needed parts numbers that would be great! I just want to swap head units...

Do you have the 15 speaker JBL system? If so it includes nav

I do have the 15 speaker JBL synthesis system - but I do not have the touch screen navi head unit. I have the standard headunit with the orange background and difficult to read black text. I love the sound of the JBL system - but want to swap the head unit for a navi head unit. The dealer said that the part isn't available by itself - and that I would have to order the 4800.00 Limited display package. That doesn't make sense as I have the Limited package with the optitron gauge display....just want the navi OEM head unit so I can hopefully do a clean swap since I do already have the JBL option.

Are you sure you have 15 speakers? As far as I know, the only system Toyota offers with 15 speakers is the JBL with NAV system. You might want to check your window sticker to see exactly what's in there. The options offered are listed on this page:Toyota 4Runner - 2012 Performance & Specifications. I really doubt you're going to be able to just "swap head units".

SInce it is in fact the JBL system without the NAVI - do you think it is possible to simply swap head units since they are both 15 speaker JBL systems?

Interesting. Is your vehicle canadian?(or non-US?) Perhaps Toyota is offering options in other regions that aren't available here. This is the first I've heard of the 15 speaker without NAV, but clearly if you have it on your sticker then you have it. I'm not sure, I still am of the belief that you'd need additional wiring but I'm not sure what the differences are in those head units. The only thing I could think of is that you could pull your unit out and compare the connectors to the thread with all the connectors for the NAV and see what matches what. Good luck man!

JBL was standard in the 11' LTD. The only option was a touchscreen nav.head unit or dial type non-nav head unit. I don't know if the headunits are plug and play interchangable.
 
Thanks guys for the info - I think I will pull mine out and take a picture of the back to compare against the Navi unit I saw on this thread. Then, I will continue trying to track one down.

I've been thinking about adding the nav to my non-nav JBL system as well. I bought my Ltd in TX, so they do have the option in the US. I'd be very interested in hearing your findings, jsmithusc.
