toyota 4wd traction systems

does anyone know if the 4wd traction control systems on the current land cruiser, sequoia, and 4runner are all the same?

i looked on toyota's website and it lists the land cruiser as having A-TRAC (active traction control), but the sequoia and the 4runner are listed as have TRAC (without the A).

as far as i know, my '04 has A-TRAC - just curious if they are all the same or if something has changed.

i got curious about this because i have read several times that the land cruiser has much more advanced off-road capabilities than the sequoia, and i was just wondering what it was that was making it so much more "advanced."

I know the 4R has ATRAC .

Be interesting to see some of the other answers.

I like LC's but really dont know why it would be any better of an off roader than the 4R , Sequoia would be . I think the Sequoia would be ok for its class.

Both are pretty big vehicles which I think also would limits its off road ability .

Not to mention the price of the LC.

The center differential, TRAC, ATRAC setup is the same between 4runner and Land Cruiser and, I assume, with Sequoia too. The difference would come from the fancier LC suspension with ride height adjustment and adjustable firmness.

I can adjust the rear ride height on my 4Runner (with the OEM rear air bag susp). With it set on high, it would be equal to approx a 4" lift. This system is very elaborate; it even has an air dryer.

The LC has a higher ramp travel index (I think it's about 120 points higher), which means that it has better suspension articulation or wheel travel. Traction control works much better when the wheels are firmly planted on the ground.

I am not sure how the approach/breakover/departure angles compare, but the LC may have a cleaner underbody. In addition, the LC is about 1,000 lbs. heavier than the 4Runner.

Years ago, I remember reading some type of comparison of the LC with other Toyota trucks/SUVs where they showed pictures of various mechanical components. If I remember correctly, they showed parts such as tie rod ends, ball joints, etc. The LC's parts were much more stout, which would help explain its much greater weight.

I believe the LC used to have a larger (maybe stronger?) 8.8" rear diff instead of the 8" used on the 4Runner. I don't know if it still does. The 80 series LC, which is still produced for foreign markets, has solid front and rear axles, and it is available with factory front/center/rear locking differentials. To be honest, I don't know if a rear locker is available on the IFS 100 series LC.
