Toyota 5th Gen 30K Maintenance/Service Buyers guide:

My 2014 4Runner Limited is coming up on 30K miles and is now out of Toyota Care. I am the Reluctant Nomad so working on the vehicle is difficult (no garage, apartment complex, and avid desire to not have clutter). Dealership wanted $380 for full 30K service, ~$280 for piece meal and self air filters replace. I decided against dealer after they quoted $160 for lubing zerk fittings.

Maintenance items recommended @ 30K:
- Oil Change (big monster)
- Lube zerk fittings (big?/new monster)
- Retorque Drive Shaft bolts (small to medium monster)
- Tire Rotation (medium monster)
- Air (cabin and engine) filter replacement (easy monster)
- Inspect fluids, brakes, etc.

My shopping cart shipped (includes most the special tools): ~492 ($452 pre-tax/ship)

Technically more expensive then dealership, but meh. Did not feel encouraged by their service offerings. Also, possible opportunity to make some friends.

I would add that a brake fluid flush is something I recommend to all customers every 3yr/30k (also what I do on my own vehicle) as well as replacing all the Differential Fluids (at least the first time, if you go fancy synthetic then you may want to adjust the interval some.)

Why flush the brake fluid at 30 K? That would be yearly for me.

Supposedly because in the course of about 3yr/30k the fluid can either absorb moisture and/or degrade in terms of chemical make up. Some performance brands are saying 2yr/20k.

My wife's Lexus RX has a brake fluid flush as part of the standard service 30k maintenance.
