95 4Runner, :awais:
My 4Runner has a odd A/C problem. First off when it works it's great in the hottest weather it blows real cold, blower motor works well.
The system just stops blowing cold air, it does blow air, just not cold.
I can look at the tack when I turn on the A/C the rpm increases a bit, the compressor clutch engages and the compressor is locked and turning fine. Belt is also tight and with no issues. The A/C pusher fan comes on as normal.
The odd thing is theres no heat being produced at the condenser and surely no cold air. The engine normally reacts to the load of the A/C compressor and the idle rpm stabilizes, but now since theres no load or resistance encountered the idle rpm with the A/C on is about 100 rpm higher. Now surely the EFI sees the A/C request and raises the engine rpm but since theres no load it stays elevated.
My best guess is there is 1. some sorta of expansion valve thats skewed open or
2. The compressor internally is bypassing the pump stage.
What do you Toyota A/C experts think??? John
