Toyota antifreeze

Guys,
I asked this question before and never got a solid answer.
What's the deal with Toyota antifreeze
(the red stuff).
Is it different/better than the regular green stuff I've been using forever in other cars?
Are they compatable and mixable?
My '98 came with the Red and I'll like to change it. Any thoughts?

There are several different kinds of coolant out there, many of which are created by the car manufacturers. The difference is not the ethylene glycol - they all have that - but in the additives it has to prevent corrosion of the various metal parts in your cooling system. The additives are based on the materials that manufacturer happens to use.

Those additives are sometimes not compatible with each other, so mixing two different kinds of coolant is often a bad idea. Certain combinations could accelerate the corrosion! I know Prestone makes a product that says it's compatible with with several different manufacturer coolants, but I still wonder about that.

Toyota "Red" is Toyota's Long Life Coolant, or LLC. Toyota also sells a Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC), which is pink. Those two coolants are compatible - you can mix them, or you can replace the red with the pink.
