I had the Toyota 4 Runner bug deflector installed before I picked up the vehicle but I had someone tell me after the fact that it will impact my gas mileage.

Thoughts?

It seems fairly aerodynamic.

I am driving as gentle as I can and the best mpg I have been able to achieve is 20.3 on mostly all interstate driving.

450 miles on a 2015 Limited 4x4.

Seriously, you should return your truck right now, and buy something else if you are that worried about your mpg. It will certainly drive you crazy trying to get optimum mpg all the time. The thing is rated at 17/22

What is lol is you think that I am so far off. You should be able to judge by the demeanor of my post that there is a tad bit of sarcasm, for the most part my facts are pretty accurate.

Aren't they? How heavy do you think they are? I know mine with me in it, a full tank of gas, the 100 pounds or so of crap I carry, and the stuff I have bolted on runs 5400 lbs. add three passengers at 170 a piece and I am just shy of 6000. Dude GVW of the truck is 6300 stock, meaning max stock capacity. I would make a statistical guess to say approx half of the 5th gens here weigh in the range of 5000-5600 without anyone in them, and the top of the scale, fully loaded with armor and gear easily approaching if not exceeding 6000.

So yeah a blank truck with no one in, not carrying anything, stock tires, weighs 4500 for a base sr5 and 4900 for a loaded trail or limited. Have fun not driving that to the mall :

Mine weighs that much when the mother in law rides with us. I prefer when she drives herself.

Not a fan of her grabbing hold of my seat to launch herself into the back seat.

The purpose of a bug deflector is to rub paint off of the nose of the hood and keep a constant bead of water there to make sure that it rusts--salt water if you life in the North.

To be fair, the Toyota version of the bug deflector does not even touch the hood paint, and does not trap any water. It is attached by metal brackets which bolt to the underside of the hood front.
