Toyota Care Anywhere/When To Do Oil?

These might be typical questions and or something that's been asked awhile. I did a brief search, but really didn't find much (though I admit I'm not the best searcher, forums hate me).

My uncle is unfortunately passing away and I need to make a long trip back East. As much as I want to fly, I just don't have the $$$ for the last minute airfare, and I have wanted to drive across country anyways, so this kind of saves a little money while knocking something off my bucket list.

I'm at 1,200 miles on my new 2017 TRD Pro, and just wanted to confirm that if necessary I could get my oil changed and tires rotated at any dealer over there for free? Is this right or am I wrong?

Also, I've read 5,000 and 10,000 for oil changes. Which is correct? Should my first one be done sooner? I've read they use special stuff for the first 10,000, and then after that it's every 5,000?

Can anyone break this down for me? Obviously going to be putting on a ton of miles from CA-->VA, so want to make sure it's all done correctly and whether I'm going to be paying for anything or not.

Well for my 16 trd pro I changed the oil every 10k unless I'm doing a lot of off-road use then I'll do it every 5k. I know that with the first 20k of services is covered by Toyota well it was in my case so they rotated the tires every 5k and oil at 10k and yes they will cover any service at any dealership i had both a 5k and and a 10k done for free at different dealerships during my first 20k miles hope that helps

I believe mine is 2 years/25,000 miles. But I'm sure there's always some finer print that breaks it down more than that.

So these motors actually do 10K as long as we're not doing anything crazy offroad, that's good to know. My brother works at a shop so I can have him do the tire rotation for me when I get there, I just like to have anything motor wise done by Toyota as long as it's under warranty and free.

Across the country and back is going to be all highway driving. Just wait until you get back home to change the oil.

I would see if you can find all the original paperwork with the vehicle. You should have a "Maintenance Guide" that came along with your owner's manuals and such. In that it describes what services need to be performed in 5k intervals and details what Toyota considers "Severe" and "Normal" duty. For Normal driving 10k oil change intervals with tire rotations every 5k are recommended. For "Severe" 5k Tire Rotation & Oil Change intervals are recommended.

dealership I bought mine from put a 5k miles oil change sticker in the window. They know I am not doing service there as they are 4 hours away. So has me wondering if indeed first oil change should be at 5k miles.

Toyota Care pays for 10,000 mile oil change. I have a 2016 Tacoma and I'm having it done every 5,000 miles. There's tons of debate about this on TacomaWorld. The dealer was going to make me pay for the 5,000 mile oil change but they fried my ECU while doing updates and kept my truck for 5 days. :heh: I had to ask for the free oil change and I'll go to a different dealer in the future. I think the oil change was going to be $60; cheap insurance IMO. I still only have about 7500 miles on it after 10 months. I have too many vehicle choices.

Sucks that you are making that cross country trip for the reason and good that you are being proactive about your trip. I just got my 10K done on my 16' SR5P. Every 5K they rotate tires and 10K is an oil change. Toyota Care, for the 2 or 4 years that you are covered, (I just got the extension to 4 years, great price and cheaper if I didn't get it) can be done anywhere. You are in their system so you'll be fine. Drive safe.

I would change before I go, I like to do initial change at around 1k miles anyway, and not worry about it until I get back.

Found it and you are right 5K for tire rotation and fluid level fill up basically. Along with some other stuff for 4WD use. 10K for the oil. I swear I saw 5K for oil, and I reached out to my dealer and the guy said 5K for oil, but he's also a sales rep so he might not know what he's talking about too.

Checked oil level and it's in the range it should be and clean still (which it should be at that amount of mileage).
