I didn’t buy a CPO because it’s reflected in the price and most reputable dealerships have their own checklist, although not as thorough as yotas

I did, but I don't believe it was very thorough or they just ignored things that were wrong. I flew to Las Vegas and drove it home. I ended up taking it to a dealership here it to get it worked on under warranty. New: driveshaft, rubber lift button on rear door, third brake light bulb, CV boots on R side, three window seals...can't recall anything more, though I thought there was something else. I don't know what the total would be, but I just paid $100 total for all that.

Wow! How many miles were on it? Sounds like it had a rough life. I guess that's the beauty of the certified program though. Have it inspected an get everything fixed to spec for $100.

It's a decent certified program. It's not near as nice as the Lexus program that gives you two full years and unlimited mileage after the factory warranty expires. But it gives you one year or 12,000 miles that is pretty close to bumper to bumper but, more importantly, extends the powertrain warranty to 7 years or 100,000 miles.

I bought it in June of 2013 and it had 46700 on the meter.:clap2: The driveshaft was covered under a TSB, boots just had a small bit of grease leaking, I took issue with the window seals and rear button since they should NOT deteriorate after six years, and light bulbs just go out early sometimes. There are a few dents on the skid plates so I know the took it off road at least a couple times and a couple small scratches. Other than that, its great. Low miles, under warranty, V8, and clean carfax made me jump on it (though I was prepared to fly/rent car back without it). Almost has 76000 now.

So did you just take it to your local dealership and tell them to look it over, or did you have to force them to fix those items?

Took it to a dealership. They knew about the TSB (I think there was something on the rear door sensor pad, too. ???) and they found the torn boot and bulb, but I did say about the windows seals that it was not right to have them deteriorate in less than six years since my last Toyota never had them go in the 20 years I had it. They couldn't really argue against it since they were doing the pad which is of the same material...and they knew I was right. They called it a "goodwill repair", though. Right!

Toyota dealers are not the only ones to do this. These so-called "certified" cars are in my opinion sometimes cleaned up to look good and not much else is done. I say this because I've gone through a few of them myself and found dirty oil and filter(s) and other neglected maint.
Someone runs down the long checklist and marks all the entries complete; then the vehicle is sent through the car wash and off to the sales lot.
