Toyota dealership charges to reprogram options?

So this weekend I took my 4Runner to get an alignment. While there I wanted them to reprogram the option that unlocks all your doors when you put it on Park. I don't like this option and per the manual this is a reprogrammable thing. I want my doors to keep locked when I put it on Park. The dealership told me that it's $75 to do this because they have to charge half an hour of labor. Does anyone have any/similar experience with this?

They're a business. Businesses have to pay employees, utilities, taxes, etc etc, ergo you, the consumer, pay for their services.

IMO 1/2 hr is reasonable.

Get a cheap OBDII off of amazon and use the Carista app ($10) and you can do any customization you want. Both of those will be cheaper than 75$, plus you'll have the option of code reading/resetting in the future.

Not charity or UNICEF. Being such an easy job that I was able to program in 3 minutes in my wife's Camry, I thought it'd be more of a dealership courtesy, specially since I was already paying $110 for an alignment and I have paid literally thousands of dollars to the same dealership through the years.Not charity since we all know how the adult world works and we all know that dealerships make a ton of money overcharging for jobs and parts. with the right tools it literally takes less than 1/2 hr.

I have, and it worked flawlessly. I purchased the Carista Bluetooth module and obd adapter cable from Amazon and the Pro ap on Google Play, and I customized everything that I wanted to. I even disabled the annoying seat belt chimes ! Best feature for Summer is being able to roll down all the side windows by simply holding the unlock button for a few seconds. It's also nice being able to try out the custom options for a few days and have the ability to reset them as needed.

I've also used Carista. I bought the iOS version and the Carista branded dongle and it worked just fine. I was modify everything I wanted to do on all my cars, not just the T4R. Using it on several cars was the selling point for me.

If I go back to the dealership I bought a 40k car from, I would expect they could comp me 30 min to reprogram this. It doesn't take 30 min and it is not labor intensive. If it isn't the dealer he purchased from, then I can understand charging as they made no money from the sale.

It really varies per dealership. I got a key cut and reprogrammed by the dealer for free.

Yes, I actually did did it yesterday. I was sick of the seatbelt chime going off getting in and out of the vehicle on the trails so I turned them off, along with a few other random things.

It is where I bought it from and have taken 3 cars for major maintenance for several years

If you do end up paying for it, have them give you list of all the changes you can make. You might find you want to make more changes than just the locks and that will be better than paying for just one change.

You do not need anything special to do this, the owners manual tells you the procedure on how to change the door lock mode.

Mine doesn't have a touchscreen, it's a 2011 SR5. I was able to do it on my wife's Camry because she has those options in the touchscreen
