Toyota Full Synthetic

I did a search and did not find anything on this, but I seem to recall somone else asking about. If it has been covered, let me know and provide a link if possible. Who makes Toyota's full synthetic 0-20W? I plan to do my first change and want to stick with the same brand if possible.

I've driven it a lot, but not that much! I am only at 2500 miles in about 6 weeks. I plan to change oil before a 3 week trip to the San Juans and Moab this summer whatever the mileage. I'll probably do it again when I get back home from that trip.

I've always put Mobil1 in my vehicles and will likely do the same with the 4Runner. In the past I've opted to change the oil after the first couple thousand miles on a new car/truck/motorcycle and I think a lot of people would be surprised what they'd find in the oil. My '05 BMW 525i had several metal shavings and other debris that came out in the first oil change after 2,000 miles. BMW would change the oil every 15,000 miles as part of their complimentary 4 year/50,000 mile maintenance agreement, but I would typically change it myself halfway at about 7,500.

Basically, everyone has their own preference on oil but as long as you stick with a full synthetic that's a proper weight then you're all set.

Exactly!!!! I plan to do my 1st at 5k, then keep and eye on it for the 2nd one, maybe 7,500 or may push the 10k.

I'm changing mine every 7500 miles ,splitting the difference of the Severe Duty/Regular duty oil change since I live in a pretty dusty area and drive it pretty hard.Same as I did on my 4th Gen.

And a TRD oil filter as they have them out now for the new engines.

I had the dealer change my oil @ 1500 miles, and I'll have them do it again @ 5000 miles and every 5k after that. I might spring for the TRD filter at 5k, too.

mine came with 2 years free maintenance — oil changes every 5k. so that'll be my schedule until 2012.

are the TRD oil filters really worth it? seems like the "performance" air filters, for example (like K&N), often have a nasty downside: fouled MAFs, excessive particulate pass-through.

I'm partial to Puralator PureOne filters but I wouldn't hesitate to use a Mobile 1 or a TRD version but the PureOne are cheaper and have good reviews.

Is the factory oil synthetic or regular? My first thought was that the OP was implying that Toyota used synthetic from the factory.

Once you go synthetic, there's no going back (not that you would want to).

they absolutely should be.

although the service dept. should already be fully informed, there are so few 2010s around here that when i go for my first service i'll make absolutely certain they use synthetic oil. (not going to look over anyone's shoulder, but definitely verify before and after.)

and yeah, it adds up to a pretty solid savings over two years!

Do you know if this something new for 2010? On my 2008 landcruiser I moved to synthetic on my first oil change, but I pay for the difference. I wonder if it was supposed to come from the factory with synthetic...

There were no offers of prepaid maintenance in my area when I bought my TE and the dealer tried to sell me a non-synthetic prepaid service plan! After my research on this site and others, they know now.
