GPS antenna
I'll take a photo tomorrow, just got my new truck today.
There are two small, round objects on the top front edge of the dash next to the windshield, just to the left of the dash center speaker. I assume one is the antenna and the other is the light sensor.
If the antenna is supposed to be somewhere else, let me know?

The factory GPS antenna is located up and under the dashboard, just above and to the rear of the head unit. Mine words perfectly there, even though it is impossible to see without disassembling the dash.

i kinda of like it hidden and that its inside, i'm thinking about getting an aftermarket nav, but i notice that some of people put their antenna on their roof etc..
Does anyone know how much OEMValue.com sell the nav for? for some reason i only see pic and not price. but it might be a pain for me to go with OEM Nav. since i do not have JBL setup.

Before I got my 4Runner, I was using the Garmin 2710 (predecessor to the current 2720). It was awesome, did a great job, and was a lot easier to learn and use than the factory nav in the 4R. I had a roof-mounted antenna, but the built-in antenna was great if the gps was placed on the dash. If you want to use it below dash level, just get an external antenna, plug it into the gps, and place the antenna on the dash near the windshield. It will give you great accuracy and be simple to use.1MZ-V8 said:

Thanks for the information! I hadn't gotten to that part of the owner's manual. I just finished the NAV manual and I feel like I earned an engineering degree. Well, a degree from a mail-order college anyway! Now to tackle the real owners manual.Uneek said:

I installed the 2005 Camry nav into my '03 Sport w/o JBL. The antenna that I got was the small black square one, about 1.5-2" in size, square. I snaked the wire under the dash and out through the defroster vent and just set the antenna up by the defroster vent in the middle of the dash. You can't even see it laying up there unless you REALLY look for it, both in and out of the vehicle. The reception is great; I usually have GPS reception nearly instantly when I start the vehicle. I figured it would get better reception there than if the dash was obstructing it, even if that was the factory spot to put it.
