I'm seeing "Hill Assist Control" and a projected path backup camera. Are those new?

Is "projected path" the one where the lines change based on your steering angle? I like that, but it's really not that big of a deal. Same with hill assist.

Having owned two FJ Cruisers, the roof rack seems to fit perfectly to me! If anyone buys a PRO and wants to get rid of that roof rack, I'll gladly make a deal to give them my current stock roof rack and some cash to take it off their hands. Just be near the Gulf Coast so we don't have to figure out shipping.

With your high post count, you should already know there are already TRD Pro hater comments already posted in numerous threads.

Modding your 4Runner yourself is not for everyone. Toyota is still going to sell plenty of them and many will enjoy their purchase.

I have a rare situation where I get to lease a PRO for less than any other 4Runner model. But even without that perk I like the PRO better. To each their own I suppose.

Good point but it is a proven design and I think that lots of folks like that. Look at what Jeep owners are paying for lower quality junk........

And I already own the Gobi rack to replace the FJ one. So that rack won't be leaving the dealership with me, but I know there's people out there that would love to have one. Let them have it it if they like it. Who even cares.

Does the 'chicken tax' apply to SUVs? I didn't think it did.

If that's the case, Toyota is only paying 2.5% tariff. The 4Runner is running in one the most automated factories and most mature assembly lines they have. It's among the oldest vehicles without a major model change and is running one of the oldest transmission and engine models. The 4Runner's BOF competitors have pretty much all died off.

I would imagine the 4Runner is one of the most profitable vehicle Toyota is producing. I doubt adding a new paint color (also a pretty automated process) does much to the bottom line.

Chicken tax does not apply, but 2.5% is still nearly $1K higher than what the Tacoma or Tundra face. Also, the demand for the 4Runner has only recently spiked; due to economic optimism, cheap gas prices, and Instagram.

Automation is not the problem. The problem is adding product mix and disrupting a mature line with near perfect optimization, stuff that Toyota pioneered and perfected. If Toyota could save money by adding all of the Pro trim stuff in Japan, they would- after all, it's a set of wheels and shocks. But the Pro arrives with steel wheels and standard shocks. Why? Because they have a set amount of resources (time, man-hours, production materials) and they use them nearly perfectly with little to no errors or rework, in order to profit. Changing this assembly line with additional product mix will throw all of that off. They would very nearly have to retool from the start, in order to re-allocate those resources. They're not going to do this for a dinosaur so late in its life cycle.

Compare the F-150 to 4Runner's current popularity explosion, they're still a fraction of the total Ford truck sales. They retool their line and basically throw out a whole new truck every two years because their sale volumes can afford it. And the product mix is insane, down to your choice of axle ratio.

That's why the Ford Raptor is an actual performance juggernaut, and the Tundra Pro is a goddamn Tundra with an extra scoop on the hood.
