Toyota will announce that they will be moving HQ from Torrance Ca to Texas. 5,300 jobs will be lost.

According to the Mayor of Torrance, a complete operations relocation of Toyota. News of the relocation is said to be by 2017.
 
That is gonna be a big hit to all of the businesses in the South Bay that rely on Toyota workers spending their money and eating out in the area.
 
I'll just sit here and wait.

Oh CA......

I hate to be so negative but it serves CA right. The sheer cost to operate and run anything there is just stupid. One of the biggest factors of me leaving the sate was getting hit with 38% in state tax the last year I lived there. To make matters worse and add insult injury, I was not even living in the United States or CA for almost 95% of that calendar years. Just because I owned a home there it was justifiable to call me a resident so there for, I had pay the state tax.

Guess what CA, never again. I'll miss the good people. I'll miss the Mts and the good wheeling. Wine country in Temecula, the good taco shops, In and Out, and the great car culture. Other than that, CA you can keep everything else.

Good for TX. I'm glad there is a state out there that is all about growth and opportunity. I can not fault your Gov. for seeing an opportunity and taking it. I guess that is why just about every person I ran into in Texas was happy and nice.

This is Gov. Moonbeams 2nd go round. :sad: As for the Toyota employees, a lot of them will be given the option to transfer. Seems like a golden opportunity to GTFO of California.

I'm not too fond of the plano area but they do have lots of off road areas nearby there... :banana:

Oh forgot to mention, I wonder how many tax $$$ the rest of us Texans will have to pony up to make up for what was given as incentive for toyo to show up?

You can bet individual property appraisals in Collin County will go up to cover the deal made with Toyota.

Plano Tx - not exactly skid row.
 
In Torrance everything was spread out and I am pretty sure Toyota will build a new building in Texas that is no so spread out over a given area.

That is just one of the divisions of Toyota (Toyota Financial Services - TFS) that is relocating. Also moving to Plano is Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. (TMS), Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (TEMA), and Toyota Motor North America (TMA).

Currently all of those divisions act as completely separate entities from each other so it will be interesting to see how they will all get along as part of the same team?

My wife works for TEMA as a contractor. The only jobs getting "lost" are contractor positions which at TEMA anyway is over 50% of the work force. No actual Toyota employees (again, at TEMA anyway) will be loosing their jobs unless the decide not to relocate. Not all TEMA positions are moving to Plano. Around 300 PE (Production Engineering) jobs will be moving to the Georgetown Plant and some other position are moving to the AnnArbor Michigan (Toyota Technical Center -TTC) location.

This move is a good 2.5-3 years out as they have not even broke ground at the new Plano location.
