Toyota issues most recalls last year.

I heard a rumor that Toyota issued more recalls last year than any other automaker. Seems a little strange to me, but I also know that they do a lot of recalls that are not mandatory.

Anyways, does anyone have any credit to this or know where I can find some information to either credit or debunkify this? Thanks!

Thanks, but I really dont see how that site would answer my question ...short of going through every single automobile on there and totalling them up myself. I just dont need to know that bad.

Also, I dont really agree with this statement. I could be wrong but even with toyota's so called "growing pains," they still are a much better built car IMO than the competition. The reason Toyotas have more problems now then they did in the 80's and even 90's is because take a look at how much more advanced the automobiles are. The more options and ammenities these vehicles come with, the more things are going to break. Its just common sense.

Again, I could be wrong but this seems to be the trend with all things technology. When cell phones first came out no one had a single complaint and now they are all pieces of shit, but they do everything but cook dinner.

It's all relative... what's more important is if the recalls are proportional to the number of vehicles produced.

It's like brand X selling 10 cars and recalling five of them vs. brand Y selling 10,000 cars of different models and recalling 100 of them. Certainly more cars are recalled, but relative to production, the likelihood of a bad car is much lower.

They Are Fixing It

Toyota has acknowledged their slipping quality and has decided to slow down product development. This will allow them to take a closer look at each step of development (testing, research and development in particular) and fix things before the car ever hits the assembly line.

Toyota is so proficient that they can produce a car (from drawing board to production line) in 17 months, which is amazing given the amount of technology that is being put in vehicles.

It should be mentioned that they are still kicking ass when it comes to initial and long-term quality. No surprise there.

This is true, but CR often lags behind complaints and issues. For example, CR rated the Honda Transmission on various Honda vehicles as excellent for years despite well-known issues since about 1997. Only in 2005 or so did CR actually downgrade the rating to reflect this.

With toyota, it seems lilke peoples expectations are just way higher thus it seems they are slipping. Other than the camshaft incident in the 5.7's, I still have yet to hear of any major issues. Its like i posted in another forum. Toyota people are pissed off when they have a rattle or whistle where some other company's buyers have just become accustomed to problems such as this. I dont know, just thinking out loud.

Consumer Reports has been dominated by influences for a decade and these forces have created a chaotic mindset and unreliable reports in my opinion.
