Toyota lost my order....

...that I placed on October 6th . My dealer just called - I thought he was calling to tell me it was here! Instead, he drops the bomb on me.

I had ordered a Pacific Blue / Taupe Limited 4X2 V6 with NAV, X-REAS, side air bags, spoiler, and sunroof.

So, here's the deal - he can get me any color I want, with most of the options but not all. My main options were the NAV and X-REAS. If other owners would comment on how much they like or dislike the NAV and/or X-REAS it would sure help me decide on whether I should re-order or take a vehicle now.

That really sounds fishy to me.....if a company loses your order, they usually schedule the product to be built right away. Perhaps the dealer lost it or ordered it incorrectly so it was rejected?

As far as your questions go, I can't comment on either X-REAS or the navigation system. Neither is available for the SR5.

XREAS is something that you cannot add later on nor is there a substitute. So, if you like it now, then get it.

NAVI is a very good system. However, there are a few aftermarket system that is almost as good (i have the Magellan RoadMate 700).

So, IF you had to sacrifice one of the above, then i would order the XREAS and cancel the NAVI.

Just like Thai said, you can add the Navi later but not the X-REAS. I have a 2004 Sport and I have to say the X-REAS is an awesome component. I've test driven other SUVs/Vans and they have very noticeable body roll when turning. I don't feel that way with the Runner, it actually feels pretty planted to the ground.

If the Navi is that important to you, you can always get it installed at Toyota after purchasing the vehicle. If I were you, I would try to see if they will give you a discounted price on the Navi system since they screwed up your order. Talk to the Manager and plead your case, worse thing they can say is no...

X-REAS

I've been driving different 4Runners for the past three weeks with different packages. I thought the X-Reas was very stiff until one of the fellow members told me to sharp turn it in a parking lot and I made a very hard right onto a freeway on ramp and was sold on the XREAS. It was better than sex, (hey I'm a 55 yr old balding fat man!)
I might be up there with you in age, Nav is nice but X-REAS will save your life!

Sounds like they probably sold yours when it came in for ahigher price than what you were going to pay for it.

If you aren''t planning on lifting the truck, get the Xreas. It is well worth it not to have the standard SUV body roll. I had a friend following me today, in a Tahoe, down some pretty curvy roads and realized that he was falling back because of all the body roll. the Xreas almost makes it feel like a sports car.

As far as the nav, honestly how often do you think you will use it. Yes, it is a cool gadget, but for the most part I think a lot of people get them just to have another toy.

Without a doubt get X-REAS as long as your not going to attempt any lift.

I agree with momo. They sold your truck to somebody else. Losing an order for fries with your burger is way different than a $35K+ truck.

I agree with other that this sounds pretty odd. Why stay with this dealer? Are they the only one in the area? My tendency would be to tell them to buzz off and go find one that is more upright.

I have both the XREAS and the NAV. If I had to choose I'd pick the XREAS because as others have said it can't be ordered later. As far as usefullness of the NAV goes, it''s one of those things that doesn't get used all the time but when you need it , it is great to have

At first I thought it sounded fishy too...until my two other friends, who ordered with me, got the same news. Both were told the same thing, that somehow Toyota headquarters in Japan screwed up the production. Never heard that one before.

As far as them selling the truck to someone else, I don't think that's it. This particular dealer has a very good reputation as an honest straight-shooter. Plus, they offered to reorder, put a rush on it, and take some $$$ off (I was already getting it for $200 over invoice, they offered to sell it right at invoice if I reordered). If I wanted to take delivery from their allocation in the next few weeks, they'd sell me on of those at cost also.

I'm with the consensus, I am willing to give up the NAV and keep X-REAS. I have NAV in my car right now, it is awesome but I use it 3 times a year, that's it. Plus, if I skip the NAV I can get an XM-ready radio and replace the factory one.

I think this dealer might have to offer me $500 more towards my trade...you know, for my mental anguish and pain and suffering.

Hey coolpop,

I bet what the dealer was doing was waiting to see what was being allocated rather than special ordering the truck. What I learned through my whole ordeal special ordering from Toyota is after 2 months they can provide you the VIN of your car. If the dealer says he can't, they lied as mine did. My dealer forgot to place the order for a month and luckily I caught them in their lie by telling me they did.

As for the NAV and X-REAS, go for it. I have actually used the NAV a lot (more than I thought I would) and I will never be without it again. You can go with an after market one, but in my opinion, Toyota did an excellent job with the NAV unit. It is fast and accurate. You will use it more than you think.

OK, they've got a Titanium/Stone with just about all the options I want - NAV, X-REAS, side curtain air bags, sunroof, spoiler, floor mats.

I do like the Titanium but I thought the Stone leather wasn't as nice as the taupe.

For you stone leather owners...comments on the like/dislike of the interior color?

I have the stone leather and at first I wasn't sure but I like it alot.

Just make sure you use a good leather care product. I use the Griot's Leather care about once a month to keep it clean and supple.

OK, after much thought, I decided to re-order from the same dealer. I figured that I can wait another few months to get the truck configured exactly how I want it. In addition, the dealer (who appeared to be genuinely sympathetic) showed me a fax from corporate where they confirmed that my re-order went straight to the top of the list for production orders, so I should have it late March/early April. They also subtracted another $300, waived the $299 doc fee and agreed to swap out the tires for Michelins if the truck came with the Dunlops or Bridgestones.

The final deal (so far): Limited 4X2 V6, Pacific Blue / Taupe, NAV, X-REAS, sunroof, spoiler, side curtain air bags, floor mats, double decker system. MSRP $39,120, original sale price $35,600 + $299 doc fee, new price $35,300 and no doc fee.

Counting down the days...again.

even though nav and x reas are options, toyota will not build cars with both of them for particular regions. getting nav and x reas in california cannot be done. nav can be ordered for california, but it is a rarely found in the cars on the lots.

Cannot comment on the nav but the XREAS is great. I got it standard on my Sport, and it really prevents body roll on cornering and turns. I am able to take turns at a high rate of speed with that. I test drove an SR5 without it and a Sport with it and there is not comparison. XREAS makes a huge difference.
