Toyota Manual Mistakes & Corrections Post

I find all kinds of mistakes in Toyota's Repair Manual. The one that is relevant for me at this time is spark plug torque. On the engine overhaul diagram plugs are shown torque of 15 ft-lbs, but on the Specs page of same manual its 13 ft-lbs. Which one is it then? Should I use 14 ft-lbs to settle it? But seriously, how can the manual be usefull if it is full of typos; one of which suggested 180 ft-lbs on 10mm nut. I know they ment 18 and not 180 but why should readers guess? Does any one else find any errors if so post here.

Unfortunately, errors in the Service Manual are common!

In the old days, dealers would get regular shipments of replacement pages. They'd go into the 3-ring binders and replace the pages that have errors on them with corrected pages.

The manuals aren't any more accurate today, but I think the replacement pages are gone in favor of electronic access to the information. Toyota has stopped issuing TSB's that list the pages that have been corrected. Instead, Toyota expects dealers to use the Tech Info System (TIS) rather than have paper manuals sitting around.

It might be interesting to log on to TIS and find the page(s) you think have errors and see if the PDF's that are currently up there include corrections.

Just torque them to 14. Your torque wrench is probably off more than the difference + or -.
