Toyota of Dallas (STAY AWAY! FAR AWAY!)

I recently tried this dealer as my regular dealer isn't close to my office. This dealer had a shuttle service, and so I thought, this is a simple warranty issue.

History; The drivers seat (when I tried to recline it), wouldn't recline. The left side would go down, the right side would not.

Resolution: The dealer accused me of "being too rough" on my seat, and that I must have broken it. They fixed it "as a courtesy", but the entire experience was horrible.

I'm posting a letter I sent to the service advisor, GM, and the Service manager: (Names removed for obvious reason)

====
(Service Advisor guy),
I thought you deserved to know that I will not be returning to your dealership, nor will I recommend anyone else to use that dealer. I am very dissatisfied with the entire experience, and figured you deserved to know why:

1. Poor communication - I was advised that I would be “informed” on my vehicle’s progress, yet, I had to take the initiative and “chase you down” at every turn. I was promised follow up’s, nothing ever came to fruition. This is extremely poor customer service.
2. Shop Foreman – While I can appreciate where he’s coming from, accusing a customer of breaking their own seat is not only unprofessional, but was without warrant. I wasn’t asked if anything unusual had happened, if I bought the vehicle “brand new”, if I’d ever attempted to use the recline function – 0 – nothing – zilch – It was just immediately assumed that I must have done something to it, so it was fixed ‘as a courtesy’ “this time”, but wouldn’t be covered again. This is nothing short of slander in my opinion. Did you note how well kept the vehicle was? I’m OCD about my vehicles, my truck is IMMACTULATE and I would never break anything, intentionally, accidental, or otherwise – without informing my dealer. I do well in my career, I have no reason to attempt to defraud Toyota in some type of “warranty claim”. Also, my vehicle was a PROGRAM truck, it had 3000 miles on it. I've never used the seat, so it must have been broken when I took delivery!
3. I’m a lifetime Toyota buyer. Perhaps a little check on me would have yielded you that this is my 9th Toyota, and 5th Toyota 4Runner. I’m an avid brand loyalist, I praise good service, I equally express my frustration with poor service. I contacted [Another local dealer] shortly after I left your dealer. Do you know what I was told by the service manager there? The seat defect is common, they’ve seen 10 of them, and I find it hard to believe that 10 different customers are breaking their seat. Clearly, there is an issue here. Yes, Your foreman may have fixed it, but I’m not convinced as to the root cause.
4. I am one of those customers that will tell EVERYONE about a poor experience. I’ve already expressed my horror at your dealer on the forums in which I’m a member, and I’m passing the word to everyone I see. Bottom line, AVOID Toyota of Dallas. They will accuse you of damaging your own car, fail to communicate with you in a timely manner, and will almost certainly treat you like a criminal.
5. I’ve purchased 3 (THREE) Toyota 4Runners from [my dealer] in the last 5 (FIVE) years. I’m a very avid buyer, and any chance your dealer had of winning my business is gone forever.

I will NEVER return to your dealer. You had the opportunity to win a new customer, instead, you’ve now got a very outspoken critic.

Perhaps you will work with your staff (the shop foreman) and others to actually learn from this experience.

Good luck

Wow that is very odd. I know that Toyota of Dallas is one of the largest online dealers and every experience I have had dealing with them has been great. Then again this is their parts department and not their service department.

Service dept and sales are both bad. I could tell you a long story about buying a vehicle there...and getting leather installed once.

It's late...I'd rather not.

Just stay away from Toyota of Dallas...

Well damn. Too bad I bought my 4R from there 2 days before this thread was started!!!!

In all honesty, although I had to spend a few hours haggling, they were pretty good to me considering buying a car from any dealership sucks.

It's not on my top ten things that I enjoy. LOL

x2. I have gotten nothing but top notch parts and service from TOD.

Considering they didn't even BOTHER to respond to the letter, I would say they could care less about keeping repeat business. Any reputable dealer would have at least called to see what happened. I'll never go back to that dealer - ever. I know every dealer has thier quirks, but the one I use gives me consistent service, treats me professional, and has always done whatever it takes to make it right. I should have never tried another dealer, I'm glad others are getting good service - at least some people are.

Perhaps its because my vehicle had the other dealer plates on it. Too bad for them,had it been a positive experience they may have had a chance to get more business simply because of convience and shuttle. As it stands now, you couldn't pay me to go back to that place.

Having been there several times for service, I would not let any other dealership touch my truck... and thats saying a lot. I can only speak to my own experience. I'm saddened that you had a bad run, but I'll contend that your case seems to be the statistically improbable exception to the norm.

Once again, sorry to hear that you had a bad run in and I hope that you are able to get everything resolved.

I have had a number of experiences with Jacque in TRD sales, and also with the "regular" parts department at Toyota of Dallas. All have been absolutely stellar!

Two years ago I shopped for new vehicles there and have never been very thrilled with their antics except for one time. I actually met who I was told was the owner. He was awesome. He made me want to buy from him right there on the spot, offering a very fair trade value and deep discount on an FJ for me. I ultimately waited on the purchase as I decided a T4R was for me. When I was ready to purchase I of course called Toyota of Dallas to determine if they had any T4R Trail Edition vehicles. The salesman that answered the phone had no clue what a TE was. This bothered me greatly. I hung up on this salesperson and called back requesting to speak with a manager. I don't think I was ever connected to a manager but was connected to another salesman that was even less experienced. He did say he would pull up the computer and try to locate me one. We hung up. In 20 minutes he called back and said he had found two. A Black and a silver. I said "great, where are they?" He then told me where they were, I called that dealer, negotiated the deal on the phone, confirmed equipment, passed on my Credit Card #, and hopped a flight the next morning to go get it. Saved $500 on the transfer and the hassle of dealing with a sales department that appeared to be inept.

Latest experience at Toyota of Dallas about a week ago. ON a lazy Saturday....my daughter and I were out cruising around. We swung by the Toyota of Dallas lot as she will be getting her license in about 8 months. We were on the pre-owned lot, driving through and looking and a nice young man came out and greeted me by name. I had never seen him before in my life. He took the trouble to search my vehicle (TE) by plate and identified me before even coming out to speak to us. He showed us two vehicles, bringing the keys out, and was super knowledgeable. I got his name and told him I would call him in November as that was when I would be ready to buy. That is outstanding sales service. I would bet you dollars to donuts that I will be buying a car from that guy in November without fail.

My experience with the service department has been stellar at TOD also. But I sought out the best advisor. I even asked other dealers how to manage the system at TOD. They told me the Service Manager's name and the best advisor. I then questioned others as to the best. The up-front time is well worth the effort and has paid off for me.

Moral. It all depends on who you get. There are great people and lousy people at every dealership. Just like there are great lawyers, doctors, plumbers, and crappy ones. We as consumers, have to take the initiative to seek out the best and the brightest.

Sorry for the rant.

Parts are very good;

their sales people are bad but not nearly as bad as the "Sport City" toyota dealerships that populate the DFW area---those sales guys remind me of Saturday Night fever and I almost can hear the Beegees screeching out the title song as they strut and try to lay their stuff on you........
:banana:

" Oh, the managment don't put the real sales price listed on the sticker...well I do not know it...say how much you think that car should be... come on into the office and let me find out....let me have your drivers licensce....what is your credit score...could you afford to put 5k down.....can not tell you the monthly payments without a credit check........What is your problem? What do you mean you want to know the price of the car? well maybe that car is too much car for you....prove me wrong...."

:banana:
