Toyota Parts Interchangeability

Here's an upgrade I came across on 4crawler when replacing my idler arm recently(after 235K mi.). Use a 2nd gen idler. They're thicker and stronger. Get a Duralast replacement PN# FA5040 with the "L" casting mark. They're rebuildable with a bronze bushing kit from 4crawler.

Since this has been revived i have a question. Can you put the IFS front discs on a 2wd? My brother in law and i are building a 86 2wd with a 327 in it and we need to upgrade the brakes. Im guess ing the landcruiser master cylinder will still work but what about calipers. I know the IFS rotors wont work obviously since its for a 4wd but what options do we have for an upgrade on a 2wd

Absolutely not. The 4wd rotors slide over the wheel studs, there are 6 of them. The 2WD rotors are trapped rotors and are bolted in with the 5 studs and is sandwiched between the hub and spindle.

Try going through this thread HERE for info on upgrading the front brakes. Its gonna be a lot of work though, including some metal fabwork and buying a template from the OP in that thread!

Thanks so was that a no for the land cruiser master cylinder as well? his truck is the same as a 1st gen runner. He is going to do disc brakes on his 9" in the rear so i think that may be enough. A bigger master cylinder would be good though
 
I think that was the upgrade to the 4wd toys, upgrading the master to a 1 inch bore from an FJ80, which is what I have on mine, think I got it from Marlin Crawler or maybe it was Trail Gear.

I believe the masters will bolt up to either 2wd or 4wd boosters, but I haven't done one before so I can't say for sure. I know it will work on my '85 supra, same bolt pattern and lines look like they line up.

You'll get better pressure when braking by using the 1" bore master, and combined with SS brake lines, the pedal will be rock solid when you brake, but none of this will help with brake fade. My only suggestion to you, aside from trying that mod in the link I sent earlier, would be to try going with high-end brake rotors and something like Porterfield R4-1 pads. Not sure they even make one for the 2wd model, but its about as close as you'll get to a better brake under high load and heat.

I run the R4S on my truck's front pads, and although they take a bit to warm up from first driving the truck, they are fantastic for braking! I can lock all four wheels up on dry pavement with enough force at the pedal! And I run 35" tires!

Nope, not that one either. Different body shape, and I doubt the holes would ever line up if you could fit it in the slot.

Maybe it would work if you wanted to use duct tape though!!! :lol:
