Toyota parts made in China?

Seen other OEM Toyo parts made in the PRC. Not surprised.

I know this isn't related to Our runners.... but Nikon Camera/optics company started having some of their Lenses made in China. I'm waiting for a Lens now and i'm told thats where is coming from.All these years of Japanese QC and Precision and attention to detail... Hopefully there wont be any noticeable difference.

There's the quality issues but there's also the human rights, and currency manipulation, and social credit system/general totalitarianism, and the fact that they're ostensibly a bunch of commies... I've returned many parts and refused to buy many times more than that just because they were made in PRC. Body clips etc are one thing but there's no reason a $25 seal should be made in China. Hope this ins't a trend.

I hate to tell you but you will quickly notice the difference. If you ordered a FX lens, you will be able to tell the difference quickly. Its part of the reason I switched to Sony. I know there stuff is probably still made in China but at least I don't feel like I am being taken by paying the high price for Japanese quality and getting stuck with Chinese garbage.

I just ordered a bunch of front end rebuild stuff from Mcgeorge, and got the same China seal. All the other stuff in my batch was Japan. China manufacturing has greatly improved with reputable companies, hopefully Toyota monitors it closely for quality control and keeps most of manufacturing in Japan.
I own a company and get some of our things manufactured in China. On initial test orders I get mostly good, but some bad (which I reject and never do business with that company again). I find it has more to do with the company than the whole country. The US turns out some garbage product too, but its all connected with that company and its pride of workmanship. But I think all will agree Toyota Japan manufacturing is of highest level.

Thats what i was afraid of... I have a small fortune in glass and frankly too old and lazy to learn a new system.. thats why my Sony RX100 is going up for sale as soon as my Leica Q2 gets here.

From my experience in the electronic design industry the stuff that comes out of China is not all bad. If you spec higher tolerances Chinese manufacturers are more than capable of producing high quality parts, but it will cost you more. The problem is all the corporations that use Chinese manufacturers are trying to save $$$.

OP, is the part number for the China part the same as with the Japan-made part?

Based on your context and tone, I suspect you meant to say 'they're INostensibly a bunch of commies'.
If you are able to actually engage in manufacturing in mainland China, you will find that the newly minted middle class people there are the most entrepreneurial, resourceful capitalists you will find. They are also very good people that will provide a warm welcome, even to those with radically blanket, ignorant prejudice against a billion people.
Ironically, your original statement of 'ostensibly a bunch of commies' is correct (although I'm not sure a fact can be ostensible?). The few families that run their government (own the country) work very hard on propaganda so the rest of the world believes their population brainlessly stand behind their policies. Same as any government.
My opinion (take it for whatever it's worth to you) is that American efforts should be focused on educating our new generations on HOW we gained our position of greatness and what our previous generations fought so hard for. The socialist undertones of our own policies have easily put our workforce to sleep. Our position as the world's ground zero for consumerism is a gift from those who fought for it, and is not tenable unless we wake up our children (more than hubristic pointing). As of now: we innovate, they manufacture, we buy. The Chinese are extremely smart. I believe their government has allowed the middle class to flourish over the last 20 years which is wildly different from other archaic style communism (N Korea, Venezuala), and a result the Chinese have become formidable innovators. I cast my vote, raise my kids, and spend my money in a fashion that may remove our red tape against entrepreneurism, bring back the honor of graduating from a trade school, and create an awareness that the life we enjoy in America needs to be protected by more than just finger pointing. We need to push innovation, produce, and work hard.
China is extremely capable of best in class manufacturing; Apple is a fine example. They will do what they are told and they will meet the requirements provided. Too many manufacturers place PO's in China based on price without proper supply chain management and quality controls. Yes, they make a lot of junk. A lot. Because the check clears.
I'd place my bets Toyota does a nice job ensuring that any products they have made meet their standards.
