Toyota Performance Magazine

Hi All,

Thought I'd post up a little intro, but I won't go into too much detail yet as we've contacted your club admin and waiting for a response, and we don't want to be seen as spamming. I'd also like to point out that we are not another owners club we are an actual printed magazine.

Who are we? We're a new printed magazine solely dedicated to Performance Toyotas past, present and future, TOYOTA PERFORMANCE MAGAZINE, and we're launching very soon. I'm the sub-editor John Gaskell, and I have 1 Toyota MR2s, and a Supra VVTi TT6. My editor is the owner of 3 MR2's and the rest of my team are all Toyota owners, you can read a bit more about myself and the team over on our website. We've also successfully published an all MR2 publication for the last 3 years, MR2 Only Magazine.

From browsing around here, I'm hoping we are going to be featuring a few of your cars in the near future, and I look forward to seeing some posted on our website, you're all very welcome to post photos and potential feature requests. We'll cover as many shows as possible, but are looking for Club Representatives to come onboard to cover shoes that we can't manage.

Hopefully I'll be back with permission in due course to let you know more about Toyota Performance Magazine, as we are prepared to become affiliates, but in the meantime you can find out more, and post up your photos at:

Looks like you fukked up that whole "not spamming" thing...

Also, why do you suppose you are going to get a whole bunch of supra and mr2 owners on a 4runner forum? I understand that people tend to have more than one toyota but it's a bit of a stretch to say that you would get enough people from this site to be worth it.

And I don't know if you realized but you are another owners club. And that's all you are right now because you have never printed a magazine, and you have a [weak] forum on your site.

And so basically, your magazine is only about old toyota cars. Seeing as there are no present performance cars (unless you count the Subaru WRX STI or Lexus IS but, again, that's a bit of a stretch) and there haven't been any new ones actually announced.

I must say, that's the most negative post we've had about our publication, but we do take your points on board.

Firstly, I will say that we've had a hundreds of requests from all models of Toyota, including Tacoma's, Tundra's, Sequoia's - as well as the "usual suspects". We'll be supporting those on the site and in the magazine.

Our "forum" as you put it, is a portal for us to get feedback and will never be what we're about. You are correct though, we've not got a publication yet, but if you look at our sister publication, MR2 Only Magazine - you'll see what we've got a lot of experience in magazine publication and we are here to stay, especially judging by the Feature Requests we've received and the advertisers who've signed up so far.

We are doing UK and European events, but we are not selling tickets, therefore we are not really an owners club. We might ask some outstanding examples if they would exhibit on our stands, but we intend on going to events organised by other forums and publicising those as part of our publication - so I guess by that, it omits us from being an owners club of sorts.

The forum is indeed "weak" but that's because we use it as a communications portal - and not as a portal. The content management side of the portal is what we concentrate on, the forum is a mere extra for us to receive feedback and Feature Requests from the readers.

Hopefully, I've put the record straight, but please feel free to come over and request a feature.

Also, the Tacoma is a car close to my heart, because I've a 5VZ-FE running in my Toyota. The engine has been significantly re-worked with a 7500rpm limit, and a GT4094R running on it. In it's current "basic" tune, we're seeing 420bhp @ 0.7bar. The PCV needs opening up, and then we're upping the boost further. All good.

wooow, who pissed on your post toasties ??
way to welcome someone that just might be able to help us out...
Johnny@TPM, please dont think that hes the norm around here, pretty much everyone here are good people....
Id also be interested in something more geared to the 4th gens, lol

If you cover 1grfe mods I'll be interested.
If any cars have modded 1gr's in, then we'll have them - I know there's some modded 2gr's coming in. Maybe our Australian readers will help with the 1GR's!

Bring the details over to some requests and we'll get a ball rolling - no offence was taken and we take everything positively :)

I must say, that's the most negative post we've had about our publication, but we do take your points on board.

Well let me start by saying the fact that you have come back to post more than just one post somewhat changes my sentiments towards you (and what will be your magazine). As you seem to understand from your first sentence in your first post, there are a lot of people that signup on forums and post about there new awesome thing, and then never return. Hopefully you can see why I may have had my doubts. Also, at all times, including in my first post, I am speaking for myself and only myself. NOT the entire forum.

Firstly, I will say that we've had a hundreds of requests from all models of Toyota, including Tacoma's, Tundra's, Sequoia's - as well as the "usual suspects". We'll be supporting those on the site and in the magazine.

It's interesting that you have had so many requests from such an array of different vehicle owners. If you had mentioned that (as opposed to supras and mr2s) in your original post, again, I may have been a little more understanding. But you didn't. You said that your magazine was dedicated to "Performance Toyotas" which, at first, invokes the thought of cars like supras and mr2s. Next time your first post on a forum is about something that might not be easily interpreted as being related to the subject of the forum, you might take this into consideration and try to be a bit clearer.

It's not a "forum" as I put it. It's a "forum" as you put it. That's what it's called on the TPM website. I don't hold the fact that you haven't published a magazine yet against you...anymore. And I hope your magazine does well, as I support anything that supports Toyota. I'd actually love a supra if I could afford another car.

You can be an owners club without selling tickets to events. There are plenty of online owners clubs. I like to think of this board as an owners club, because members do try to get together, have fun, and share knowledge about the 4runners that they own. But I do see where you make the distinction with your operation now that you have explained it in a bit more detail.

The forum is indeed "weak" but that's because we use it as a communications portal - and not as a portal. The content management side of the portal is what we concentrate on, the forum is a mere extra for us to receive feedback and Feature Requests from the readers.

I have to say that I still don't see eye to eye with you here. I see that the CMS is indeed an integral part of your site, but the forum that you have setup with in the CMS does not reflect what you have said here. There are no forum sections that say they are for feedback or suggestions. Instead I see sections for "Toyota Chat" and "New Member Introductions", things that seem to point towards the "owners club" idea we discussed earlier. This is taking into account the "Feature Request" tab at the top, which is separate from the "forum" tab. I can go into greater detail on this if I must, but I feel like I don't need to be getting into the specifics of some other forum on this forum.

Hopefully, I've put the record straight, but please feel free to come over and request a feature.

You mean request one of my Toyotas be featured in the magazine, as per the "Feature Request" tab? Or request a new idea/feature for the magazine? Because if the latter is what you meant, there is no where to do that.

All good.

That sounds pretty cool and I'd love to hear more about it, either in your magazine or somewhere like toyota120.com. I hope I have enabled you to understand where the hostility in my original post comes from. If you can imagine dealing with it on one forum, imagine what it's like on 20+ forums. As i said, my sentiments towards you have changed, JUST because you actually came back for more than one post. I'm still not sure of your original intentions though, but just as ric said, I'm not the norm. I'm just a guy with a few posts myself, nothing like the 1000+ he has.

I don't know what a toastie is, but noone pissed on my honey bunches of oats. Anyone may or may not be able to help us out. If feel like everyone on the forum helps us out in some way or another. But if someone starts out with a plug for their site/magazine/forum and nothing else, I'm going to be VERY weary of them. Maybe you and I have a different approach for these types of things, or maybe we just saw the original post in two different lights. I hope your side of this whole thing is right. I'd like Johnny to be an insightful, helpful, and frequent poster on this forum, but I just don't see that happening, especially with him busy with at least 2 print publications and two websites with forums, blogs, etc.

And who are you to say I'm not good people? I'm sure you haven't been an angel in your 1000+ posts. Anyway, most people on this forum will try to defend it from spam/bad quality posts when they see them. As I said earlier, there is a chance that we just saw Johnny's original post differently, and reacted accordingly. No reason to insinuate that I am not good people. I don't want to start an on going flame war here, so let just try to put this behind us. Maybe one day I'll be able to get the money together to make it out to Colorado like I've always wanted to, and we can go wheeling together.

well you bash a new member and a possible vendor on his very first post, a "good person" would not do that, period...
If you honestly did not want to start a "flame war" then maybe you should have given the benefit of doubt, but no, you had to bash someone on thier first post, hes trying to help.
After seeing how you treat people when you first meet them, I dont think Id want to wheel with you.
You made an impression, that will be hard to change...
Im done replying to you, as far as the OP, Im hoping we can learn from you, maybe, ya never know :lookout:
Sorry for getting off topic here

I am interested in this magazine. Please don't let one bad member deter you from this site. If you want pics of a almost Stock and Red 97 4Runner, i have plenty for ya. :D

It appears that no one feels the same way I do about the original post. Evidently then, I took it the wrong way and I must be/have been out of line. I apologize to the OP Johnny and to the rest of the forums. As others have said, please don't let my comments deter you from being a part of this community. Back on topic from my side as well.

There's certainly no need to apologise to me - we're always open to criticism - both constructive or otherwise :)
