Toyota pink coolant eats away at water pump gaskets?

Just curious if this is true or not, I've heard that the new toyota genuine pink coolant will eat away at the gasket on the water pump (4.7L V8) but the old red coolant didnt. That's just what I heard not sure if it's true or if it is its only minor if at all. Any info will be appreciated.

I've been using Toyota {pink} coolant since 2005, when I purchased my 4runner from the dealer. The original water pump is still purring along with no leaks....so, I would say that myth is busted!

I heard all coolant will eat away gasket material if the additives in it get used up and that is why you are suppose to change coolant. From what I read (i think on BITOG) coolant turns acidic with time and must be replaced.

Correct, its inpurities in the coolant that cause the acidity level to rise against the gaskets.. not the coolant itself. When it gets old, after years of condensation and contamination it can became acidic. the super long life coolant is more resistant to this then some others but a solid flush and therostat change every 5 years or 50k and/or timing belt waterpump change, after the original 100k is probably good rule of thumb for not alot of money.

The problem with the waterpump gasket is that it is basically RTV and applying it correctly requires reading directions.

Eh, could help stabilize pH to ensure it doesn't become corrosive over time, among a laundry list of other things. Basically an OAT(organic acid technology) coolant if you want to read more.

Use the pink coolant in mine and 12 years 165k later everything has been fine.

My 2005 4.0 has green in it, has for many many years. Close to 250K miles on it, radiator failed at about 235K so I have to say the green seems to be working just fine.

Green isnt bad but its old style but its probably not as good as the toyota coolant. The issue comes with mixing.. if it has green it means everything was flushed out at some point and refilled with green. Green works but it should probably be changed more often then you would need to with toyota stuff.. Again, just dont mix them

Yeah I've seen what happens when they're mixed, not pretty. Just torn my engine down tonight for a top end rebuild. No idea if the water pump has ever been replaced but the backing plate and pump look like they're brand new, not a spot on them, no noise, pump has zero wobble, very impressed at 250K miles.

Not sure where I got it in my head years ago that pink was just prediluted red stuff. I havent done a toyota coolant change in 10 years in my defense!
