Toyota rear cargo slide deck - what's your set-up?

I bought my 2019 TRD-Pro used and it came w/ the rear cargo slide deck. My previous T4R did not have this and I can say up to this point I dislike it very much. I see there are two rear tie downs but otherwise it seems I have to use the tie-downs that are part of the car - this rendering the slide useless.

What's your system for using it effectively or did you just pull it out all together? I'm on the fence and have been eyeing trekbox's rear cargo management system (bravo).

Post pics if you're enjoying the rear cargo slide and using it to its full potential.

Been wondering the same thing. I've searched and couldn't find much specific to the OEM cargo tray.

I use mine on occasion to make it easier when loading or unloading heavy objects.

I have the little vertical panel behind it to keep stuff from falling in the opening when it is slid out.

I keep a small tarp, two plywood squares and a tire patch kit under the tray.

I traded on my Jeep Rubicon and there was a huge gap and seats didn’t fold flat. I’m headed to Moab on Friday from Dallas which i built my Rubicon specifically for this trip over the last two years. One week before I leave and i get death wobble 3 times. That was it for me.

I’m planning on getting an Xprite mattress so I can camp a couple nights. I like the safety of sleeping inside away from predators. Also like the quiet without a tent flapping.

Here's my low buck setup. D-rings, some Perfect Bungees, and a couple of 27 gallon storage totes from Costco. It works well, and is easy to take out when I need to.

I bough it primarily because the 3rd row seat gap doesn't really easily allow for a flat area to sleep on.
The fact that the tie downs are outside the slider is just awful .... that and the fact that 4runners have no factory recovery points just shows that Toyota engineers don't use their own products when designing them.

Add a Saris rack and fork mounts and easily move bikes in and out, flat floor for sleeping, easier loading and unloading of heavy objects. You can add tie downs easily enough, just need parts and a drill and you can make it useful for whatever you need.

There are 2 in front and one in the rear where the 2 inch square hole is.

I haven't found the sliding deck to be an impedance yet and is quite useful especially on Costco or grocery shopping trips where the flexibility to slide the tray out saves my back loading heavier things at the deeper end. Can also recall it helped on a furniture shopping trip where the store employee commented the ability to slide the tray out was a life saver compared to other SUVs that don't have it. Other than that I have a portable fridge sitting on there most of the time and does help with loading/unloading that when necessary.

On a semi related side note, the OEM cargo tray cover in its out of the box form sucks a big one. It doesn't fit quite right and doesn't really stay in place by itself. Had to add some Velcro underneath to help it stay put. It's now a non-issue but you'd figure Toyota would have done something to make it better than it is unmodified.

Jeeps because of their solid axles can get death wobble when parts are worn or things not being aligned. I didn’t have the energy to figure out what the problem was. Death wobble is a violent shaking that is not only sketchy, but dangerous. It will only stop when you the Jeep comes to a complete stop. I’ve always wanted a 4R. This was the perfect excuse to get one. Unfortunately I got killed on the trade.

I specifically sought out a 4Runner with a tray to have a level surface for loading gear and for sleeping on. I love it.

I use a couple of storage containers as in post #6 but without the bungee support.

Great for bringing home lots of groceries or other goods and easy to remove as needed.

Otherwise I don't use the cargo tray for much of anything at all.

Got it and appreciate the explanation. This is the first time I've heard of it but of course have no experience with Jeeps other than my father-in-laws Grand Cherokee. As for the trade-in, I've sold my last 2 vehicles outright (made more that way too) and didn't even bother asking for a price on my current vehicle when buying new. I find the simpler you can make the transaction the better as it's less variables for them to balance and then allowing you to focus solely on the new car price negotiations. Either way, welcome to the 4R club!

I love the cargo slide deck. I've used my 4R to haul quite a few heavy things already since I purchased it late last year and it has saved my back some extra work whenever I am loading and unloading it. And the fact that it flattens out the trunk is even better as it makes stacking and loading the truck so much easier.

After using mine for 8 years, the only thing that it has been helpful with is loading heavy items that I hauled. It's nice that you can set them on the extended tray and then slide it back in vs. leaning over the bumper to set something heavy in the cargo area. Other than that, the gap that forms when you extend it out makes it hard to store anything in that area.

Picked up a ready to assemble desk over the weekend. It was packed in a flat box about 120 lbs..The cargo slide made it super easy to get it in and out of the back without worrying about dragging it over my bumper..

My step-dad has a '19 limited with 3rd row, so no cargo deck. We did some skiing and had a bunch of equipment in the back, getting stuff in and out without one made me miss my slide deck..

Good point about the hitch as a recovery point, you're right about that.
Aren't the front welded loops tie down points for shipping and not rated for recovery?

Can't seem to put my finger on the exact one, but I'm pretty sure this has been covered at length in quite a few threads. Those loops/hooks up front would be more than sufficient to recover a 4R under just about any circumstance. I haven't had a need yet, but wouldn't hesitate to use them as recovery points..
