Toyota Recalls - When does it end?

Ok, the latest has a bunch of Toyota sedans and the Highlander being recalled because of brake and brake fluid issues.

No major recalls to date with the 4Runner, even though there are issues with underbody rust and front brake caliper corrosion.

Every car manufacturer has recalls. All the time. It's always in the news now cause the domestic car makers needed to tarnish the image that people had of Toyota so they made sure it was in the news.

I'd say Toyota is going right where they should with this. They are going to recall everything down to a screw defect, and when GM or Chrysler start getting called out on problems Toyota is just going to be like, "Been there, done that."

Toyota still moves cars like hot cakes in my town, and they are begging people to cash in leases as their used car market is huge as well.

You wish. They've yet to make a major recall on the Toyota 4Runner despite the problems people have discussed about on this forum.

I personally couldn't care less any which way. However, to me a NA car will always be crap, and I fail to see them avoiding a major problem in the future.

Having a Volkswagen they were a few known issues that happened to every car and it took intense lobbying from the volkswagen community to finally fix the problem after many years.
Toyota goes out of there where it seems on there recalls and I give them props. All other makes have recalls but toyota is top dawg right now and the media is on there ass

Yeah, it's hard to give a large company credit for anything but a profit motive. Actually, it seems the big winners may be Kia and Hyundai.

On this recall in an article I read, it's due to the wrong brake fluid type being used. That's more of an owner and mechanic mistake that Toyota is on the hook for.

If Toyota designs vehicles where they expect all their buyers to go to the dealership for service and use OEM equipment only, then they are pretty much begging for a recall.

Toyotas' recalls are rather minor to most other vehicle manufacturers, especially domestics. Check out some random vehicles and you will see that the number of recalls as well as their severity is pretty serious in comparison to the couple recalls that Toyota has had. Somehow Toyota recalls seem to be newsworthy?

My wife's' former vehicle (Ford Contour) had the following recalls...
1 - ABS valve subject to corrosion and could fail.
2 - Seat belt assembly improperly heat treated thus failing load bearing requirements.
3 - Fuel tank filler pipe grommet potentially damaged during installation resulting in a fuel leak and potential for fire.
4 - Incorrect master cylinder and brake booster assembly possibly installed resulting in reduced braking performance.

Funny how you never hear about these sort of recalls in the news???

WHAT?! Damn I was just about to go trade in the 4runner for a Ford Contour. lol man that is horrible I would get rid of that car in a heartbeat the second I found out thats what my car was being recalled for!

Yes, but these problems are normally covered under the warranty until it gets to a very large number of claims - especially since many Toyotas have come with 100K warranties for the last several years. It has to be a wide-spread issue to be a recall, and these 4runner issues aren't common enough - at least yet. A Chrysler's life expectancy in the rust belt is just as bad or worse.

I called Toyota's customer service line and asked if a fix was in the works and basically got hung up on. Toyota has become the new GM. Buy the car and we don't want to see you again.

Crappy employees like the one you dealt with shouldn't necessarily reflect Toyota's view because some zit-faced kid doesn't like to work. They do want to see you again.. and again.. and again. For service, then repairs, then to trade it in and buy a new car and start the whole process over again. If a dealership's goal was really just to sell the car initially and then never have anything to do with the customer again, most would go out of business in this economy. Many delerships are surviving on their service depts right now because sales are down with the economy.

For me, i think that Toyota screwed up on the braking thud/pounding that affected most (if not all) 4th gens. Lexus GX got the recall, but not the 4runner. I understand the "logic" behind it...rewarding those who payed more. However, the 4runner is more mainstream and not exactly cheap.

Anyway...Toyota really needs to go back to its roots...the stuff that got them to where they are today....

Exactly. People are dramatizing the Toyota pedal incidents. I get stupid recalls in the mall for the other cars (Ford, Chevy).
