Toyota RS3000 08190-00921 on a 2000?

Hey guys. I got lucky at the junkyard today and found a '98 with the Toyota VIP system installed in it. From what I can tell, it is a port-installed RS3000. No fobs, of course, but if I have factory keyless entry, then does it use my existing fob?

I have the whole kit and caboodle, minus the piezo speaker.

I'm considering just tracking down the RS3200 plus. I hate aftermarket alarms that you have to tap into the harness.

Okay so what I've learned is that the RS3000 was a "dealer" option on 1996-1999 Toyota 4Runners, and that the RS3200 was the Toyota factory alarm/dealer option.

That jives with what I saw as I pulled apart my '97 parts truck. The RS3000 system was definitely put in at the port or dealer. It is kinda plug-n-play, but there were wire taps, etc. in a few places and the harness was zip tied to the factory stuff.

Since all '99+ 4Runners already have keyless entry, the security system can be better integrated into the truck.

I'm pretty sure that the 99 was the last year to offer the RS3000, but I'm not 100% sure.

In my 2000, I know that the RS3200 was an option.

Also, from my knowledge, the RS3200+ only works with RKE trucks.

I considered what you are doing but a newer remote was worth it for me to also get remote start ( which i needed in cold climate ).
The range from some of the newer remotes are more than a mile like the PRO T12 ( 3 mile )

Splicing is not that bad you can get some really good connectors and take your time.
I'd take a new remote over and older used one anyday ( and do it again).

Great work researching. I removed the exact same unit from my buddy's 97 SR5. From my experience and to today's standards it is way below security and convenience you would expect (range, sensitivity, features, etc.). I QUICKLY removed that unit and installed an after market which was 10x more reliable (Warranty too). My opinion, you will have more trouble that what it is worth unless you are attempting to create the OEM/nostalgic value for your 4runner. As far as splicing, you do not have many to splice (12v, accessory at the most) the rest are T-TAPed instead of splicing. Very simple as it can take you less than 2 hours if you are a soldering type of tech and 3M tape.

That is pretty much the only reason why I grabbed this setup from the junkyard truck. It is a known setup that Toyota provided. It may not be the best, but heck, it works and "matches" the vehicle.
I also learned that the antenna was in a terrible spot--under the dash behind the ignition switch. It might work better closer to the plastic of the dash or ran up the A-pillar.
