Toyota service history

I logged on to toyota.com to view the service records for my 4runner. I've done it before but didn't realize you could click on the date to read additional information on the service provided. Found out my transmission was replaced at 10,000 miles!

Yes, it's a handy tool as long as you understand that it only reflects service performed at a dealership. It gives good information, but not always complete information ...

Yea def not complete info. Some service dates don't even show. All depends on what they choose to enter I guess.

Very Cool. I wonder if it will let you go back and enter service records for maintenance you've already done.

It sure does.

It's also somewhat helpful to check this if you are buying a Toyota as you can enter any VIN to see the dealer service history as long as they have entered it.

Ditto. That's exactly what I just did before purchasing my wife's Highlander.

Dunno about anyone else, but my dealer even recorded the part numbers of what went into my '99. Helpful to see how much they replaced for TB and other serious maintenance.

Also distinguished between dealer warranty and owner requested work. Doesn't include tire changes or nondealer parts, of course.

Too bad I didn't find that site a few months ago. Looks like the transmission fluid and all gear lubricants were replaced at the 96K point. I just replaced both of those at the 135K thinking they might have been original.

However, it also showed the power steering, brakes, and cooling system were flushed/filled in the same service (that must have cost a fortune). Unfortunately, I couldn't find any info on anything other than fluids and brakes (belts, hoses, water pump, etc). I did do my spark plugs a little while back and those didn't seem to be mentioned.

Lastly....it mentioned an "ammonia smell" when cold and a code P0456 which I've noticed a few times (the smell not the code). Time to start digging elsewhere in the forums. :happy:

Standard sulfur smell that comes in the vehicle with the back window down under throttle..read exhaust fumes and the vacuum created by the vehicle it sucks those in. Some say don't accelerate to solve this problem, others say to cut exhaust and reroute out the side behind rear tire, others say roll down other windows to get more ventilation...and the weird people say you get over it and just get used to it. Nothing is wrong with your car.

exactly what i did. the previous owner must have backed into the tail pipe because the lip was bent back slightly and it did not rest in the post it was supposed to. had a muffler shop cut the pipe off behind the muffler and bend me a new one, rerouted it out behind the tire. good to go for $80!
