Well, I am new to this forum, but simply b/c I lost my info, however, I was never much more than a newbie then.
I have a 1999 4Runner SR5. It has about 109,000 miles on it. I bought it with 61K miles.
I have been having an intermittent problem with the starter not working.
Let me explain.
Sometimes, I turn the key and nothing happens. No clicking sound (at least audible from inside the cab).
I keep turning the key to start, and eventually, it will try to start, sort of like a dead battery, it will barely turn over.
Then, I will do it again, and I get a little more turnover.
I may repeat this 2 - 4 times before it turns over, but it always seems weak.
Then, I could like drive a mile and shut her off, and when I leave, it starts just fine.
It seemed understandable that the turnover was weak when my battery was 5 years old, but I have since replaced it, so that isn't an issue now.
I still get it intermittently. I had it put on the machine at the autozone and they said that it wasn't the battery, the voltage regulator, the alternator or the diodes in the alternator.
I am thinking that it could be some sort of loose connection/wiring in the ignition switch or starter.
Furthermore, I don't think that there is any correlation to the problem and wet conditions, but I will be going out in the rain shortly, so we shall see.
