Toyota vs. Ford

Ok, Im gonna be honest, those Ford commercials are super brainwashing! The whole CEO in a ballcap talking to the "people" lol

... it actually makes me want to buy a Ford!!

After years and years of hating and hating Fords, I have kind of a soft spot for them!

For the last 10 years, the only cars I put beneath a Ford were Hyundai, Isuzu and Daewoo... oh, and Mercury and Infinity.

Now, I am drawn to them ever so slightly! I would never give up my 4runner for one, but I drawn ever so slightly toward the dark side! help me!

Who owns a RECENT (the last two year models) Ford and a Toyota? I need a comparison!

The only ford ive driven is the ford everest. my uncle has the toy fortuner while my bro has the hilux surf. ford everest got stuck in i foot water river crossing. i dont know about the exploders,escape and expedition.

Edit: "Brainwashing"... specially if your in the market for a new vehicle. And once your in the Ford dealer its very hard to resist their deals!!

ok, I get what you are saying... but the exploder which is the worst vehicle made in the last 10 years hasnt been made in the last 2 years right??

yeah, I know Im crazy, Im just getting caught up in the Ford commercials just like the latest Toyota commercials...
 
The Ford Explorer ("Exploder") is still sold in the U.S. For 2011, it's becoming a totally different vehicle as a crossover SUV. The name will live on, but I'm sure the 2011 model will be nothing like its predecessors.

I have seen various Ford products lately and thought they looked decent, but I don't know what it's like to own one long-term. My experience with Ford years ago was that they used cheaper parts that needed repair after a couple of years. One of the things that got me to Toyota is that Toyota seemed to use better quality parts that last longer and therefore don't need attention beyond regular maintenance.

If Ford is using better parts to get away from the "Fix Or Repair Daily" image, then maybe they're worth a new look.

As much as I love Toyota, I have been really disappointed watching Toyota's quality drop for the last 6-8 years. I don't plan to get a new car anytime soon, so I'm hoping that all of the negativity surrounding Toyota right now teaches them a lesson and within a couple of years they get back to their old ways that made them successful. If they don't, my next purchase won't automatically be a Toyota; I'd at least consider a Ford among others.
 
Can't help you, but i have recently testdriven and did research on the Ford Fusion Hybrid. I can tell you that Ford quality has gone up big time over the past few years and it shows! The interior quality is on par with the Camry. I think that only Honda is still slightly ahead of everyone else in terms of quality...but this is only my personal feeling from looking around with not much proof to back it up.

If Ford ever offered a good product, then i have no problem using my hard-earned cash to buy it. Chrysler products? No way in hell. GM? Maybe, but probably not unless it is a Caddy (CTS-V will be nice in my driveway.).

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm. That is not the CEO, it is Mike Rowe who hosts Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel, and does the voice narration for Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel.

I have to say, Ford looks and styling have come a long way in the past few years and they have quite a few good-looking models out, but I am still happy with Toyota.

Just trying to get the wife to decide if she wants a new 4Runner, Tacoma, or Sienna. Most freaking indecisive persone I have ever met.
 
I have owned a 1984 Ford Tempo (replaced transmission at 30K miles), 1994 Explorer (went 160K miles with no problems), and have driven several Ford Crown Vics for the last 20 years at work, and currently drive a 2008 Explorer for work. My experience of Toyotas vs. Ford is longevity and major repairs. My current work vehicle only has about 21K miles on it, but several of my employees have had to have transmissions, water pumps, alternators, etc., replaced all before reaching 100K on their CV's and Explorers. Bottom-line is that Toyotas will log over 200K miles +, most likely without any major repairs, whereas Fords, ...., well, if you go over 100K without any major repairs, you are lucky.
 
My dad has owned a F250 PSD (7.3L) for the past ten years and that thing wont quit. I've used it to haul my toys all across this country. There's nothing like towing 6000lbs with the cruise control set and still getting 18mpg.

I've also had minimal problems with my 4R...

In the April Consumer Reports issue, they rated the car compaines. They made Hyundai 4th, right beind Toyota. Honda and Subaru tied for first. They also show a chart of the most trouble prone cars and VW and Hyundai tied for last place.

I think their Ford Fusion is getting really good reviews and they look sharp. Consumer Reports puts Ford in the middle as far as rating the compaines. To me, I would put Ford above Hyundai or am I missing something?
 
im scared away from ford. my buddie has an 02 explorer. right now its getting the tranny/rear end rebuilt. it onl yhas 92k miles on it. there has been many things go wrong with it and he has only had it about a year. this is the only experience i have had. Ill stick with toyota.
 
I currently own both a Toyota and a Ford...I cannot contribute anything towards vehicles either have made in the past 2 years, but I love both my vehicles.

Granted I use them for completely different things, the Runner hauls me and the dogs while my F350 hauls a trailer loaded with my horses...but I have had great experiences with both companies.
 
well heres my thoughts, Im from KC, where the F-150 is assembled, not built, cause there built overseas and in mexico, lol they ARE assembled in Claycomo, Mo.
being born and raised there, (dont hold that against me,lol) everywhere you looked, was a ford or chevy, lol well I do have about 20 friends that work at the ford plant, 10 I would say are close friends, out of the 20 friends, only one drives a ford, and it took him 4 years to buy one,lol and Dwayne said he did that cause he got tired of parking in the back lot, lol
If you drive a jap car to the ford plant, you have to park in the bacl lot, which your walk to the plant is pretty darn far, lol
Ive asked them why they dont drive fords, they all say the same thing, I know hows its put together...

JD power's IQS for 2009 placed Hyundai 4th behind Lexus, Porsche, and Cadillac.


Hyundai ranked higher than honda, benz and toyota...

I think you should reevaluate your car manufacturer ratings. It seems pretty outdated and Hyundai is near the top according to more than one source as stated by other members here. And you don't consider Mercury and Ford to be the same? I can see why you wouldn't lump Nissan in with Infinity though, just like I don't consider Toyota and Lexus to be one.

Ford is really lagging in terms of reliability overall, warranty, and value. Those are the areas where Hyundai did very well. I agree that the Fusion looks nice and I like the Mercury version, Milan, even better but they are way overpriced.

I'm in the same boat with you. 06 4runner and 06 F250 6.0. Trust me I love both of them however if we are comparing cars of past like my 97 Rav4 then Toyota did a good however. however that being said I know Ford makes damn good trucks. my uncle has a 7.3L 350 with a little over 500,000 miles and still on the factory motor. But i can only speak for both Toyota and Ford on trucks not cars.
 
Never owned a Ford, never even seriously considered anything they have offered, but last year I drove new Focus rental with about 100km on the odo around Ireland for a week. I was very happy with it's performance and quality. Then on my way back home our flight from Newark to Pittsburgh was canceled due to bad weather, so I went over to hertz and rented a Ford Edge crossover and did the 8 hr drive rather than wait for another flight. Again, I thought the vehicle was great. I couldn't find anything to complain about. So after driving these two models, Ford has firmly planted itself in contention for my next vehicle purchase.

On another note, over the winter I have been to several car fires with my fire department.
3 Ford Explorers
1 Ford Taurus
1 Ford Ranger
1 Jeep Grand Cherokee
 
There recently was an Expedition that caught fire in the garage and burned a persons house down.

Ford has hits and missess like any car company but I was recently in my friend's husband's new explorer and their interiors are very bland and the overall styling doesn't do it for me and for the money they don't look like what they cost.

I do like the highend Mustangs tho'.
