Toytec 2 inch rear spring rides pretty rough..

Hey guys,

I just got my King shocks installed. The front end rides pretty well with the 550 pound rate spring.

But, the rear I feel every bump in the road with using the Toytec 2 inch spring. This is not the heavy duty spring either. I'm just not happy with the ride with a "10%" increase in spring rate.

I've lowered my tire pressure to 30 PSI on c load 285s, so I don't think that is reason for the bumpy ride.

What else is out there that has a softer spring rate for us guys that aren't going to have a lot of weight in the back?

I've got the superflex on my 4th gen and really like them too. I actually have a set of HD springs in my garage to put on when I do my axle swap. I've got a cargo box in the rear with my recovery gear which probably adds about 100lbs, so i'll ride a little high when "empty", but when my fridge, and other gear or my dog are back there it should sit about perfect. Right now my standard superflex definitely sags when I'm loaded up.

Also, try throwing a bag of sand in the trunk and see if it feels better -- 10% stiffer with 0% more weight seems like it will be noticeable.

550lb spring up front seems pretty light, so maybe it's just the noticeable difference in front and rear stiffness? I've got a 620lb spring with no extra weight up front in a v6 4th gen.

Lastly, ride feel is purely subjective, so what feels like crap to you may actually feel good to me or someone else -- answers will probably be all over the board. Good luck!

Yes, I sure understand that it is subjective. But, there is a definite degradation of ride quality in the back.

The rear is a little too jumpy/jarring for my liking over what seems to be smaller road imperfections than what should be felt.

I'm sure it is due to no additional weight in the rear...which is why i want to ponder other possible options....
 
All I have in terms of extra weight near the back are sliders, a root rack, and a ladder.

I don't think there is enough weight in the rear for the increased spring rate.

I have the same issue and researching different springs to determine which ones I'll try next. I have a roof rack with accessories, sliders, rear window storage panels, and keep recovery gear and misc stuff in the rear. Probably 150# additional over the rear axle. I ordered the C59-727 springs from Dobinson's (271lb spring rate) and they're pretty stiff. Feels like the rear axle is welded to the frame.

I'm looking at the stock spring rate Dobinsons which they list as 228lb and the Toytec Superflex 2.0. I wish Toytec would actually state the spring rate rather than 10% over stock because Dobinson says their "stock" is 228lb, but most other sources online say 180lb. So Toytec could be 198lb which would be softer than the Dobinsons 228lb "stock" measurement or stiffer at 250lb if Dobinsons has the correct stock rate.

Toytec def rides rough on close to OEM weight truck....I hate the way the truck rides right now. It feels like a giant slow sports car on coilovers.

I appreciate your feedback. There is a lot of support for the SAW springs https://www.toyteclifts.com/102-1650-195-pair-of-sway-a-way-rear-1-5-lift-coils.html and I found a few threads where people were very happy with Dobinsons "stock" springs. I think i'll order the Dobinson's C59-725 springs and test them out as I think the SAW may sit a little too low.
 
SAW without spacers will probably give you a pretty level look if you haven't adjusted the front coilovers much. I don't see any that offer a lift with the factory spring rater. Icon, Toytec, Dobinsons, they all seem to be slightly higher. I noticed Eibach has springs that look pretty light, but only offer a 1" lift.

I received word back from Toytec that their 10% over stock is based on 180lb/in factory springs. To me that means they will be roughly 198lb/in, a 73lb decrease from my current Dobinsons. Whereas the 228lb/in "stock" Dobinsons would be a 43lb decrease. Hopefully this info helps your decision. (and mine :p )
 
tossed two sandbags inside of duffel bags in the back....lowered air pressure to 28 psi on c load tires...its tolerable now.... but def not what i would consider "riding like a king"

I had the same issue with toytec 2inch non-hd and Bilstein 5160 switched the rear shocks to fox 2. The ride became better BUT I read somewhere that I needed to increase the tire pressure to 38psi to make the suspension work rather than having the tire absorbing the impact...... well the ride became a lot better afterwards

Ok thanks...I'll give that a shot tonight.

Still not happy with the truck one bit.

I'm also considering ditching the c load ridge grapplers and going back to c load ko2s.....
 
just an update here - I will be ditching the rear toytec spring and going back to OEM springs with a 1.5 spacer.

These springs ride like crap without any significant weight on the back.
