Toytec Boss Suspension Adjustment Question

Setup - have a new to me 14 TEP w/KDSS with the Boss suspension. I just put on a CBI front bumper with winch and it's dipping a bit in front (understandably). I'd like to correct that by adjusting the front coilovers. I didn't install this lift so I'm not as familiar with it. I have the wrench.

Question - I assume the front end needs to be off the ground to adjust the coils, want to know if that is a necessity or preference? Any tips, pointers or ideas before I proceed?

I did reply to an old thread in the 4th Gen forum on this topic but I wasn't sure if someone there would be able to help.

Which version of the Toytec boss coilover do you have? They revised the adjustment collar at some point I think so important to know for any replies.

Hmmmm.....let me look for the receipt from the guy I bought it from. I do know it is the cheaper one with silver coils (rated at 600lbs I believe).

You have to unload the spring by jacking it up. Take the tire off so you have enough room to work. You can go on toytec website and look up install directions. At the bottom it will tell you how to and how much to adjust. My kit didn't come with install instructions. Had to go online to get them. I think it was 1/2 inch on shock was 1 inch of lift. But again, go on toytec site to double check. Just looked myself. It's like I said. Page 5 on instructions.

You'll want to put some sort of pipe or cheater bar on the end of the wrench to give you some more torque. Be sure to keep the spanner wrench perpendicular to the shock when you are adjusting the threads. The tip of the spanner wrench can break off pretty easy if you have even the slightest angle while you're turning the adjusting nut/collar. Depending how long they've been on the vehicle and how much road grime is on the threads, it will take quite a bit of force to get them to adjust. Take your time, and really focus on the angle of the wrench. Also, mark with a sharpie where you start at, so you know how much you've adjusted. For the weight of the bumper/winch you should only need to move them up 1/4-3/8" or so. That would be my advice. Good luck!

After your adjustment, make sure you drive it around the block to allow things to settle again. I can't stress that enough. Then re-check measurements. Make sure you park in the same spot you were doing the adjustment. Lastly, if your only doing minor adjustments and you can get to it by turning the wheels, make your adjustment on the ground with tires on. Much easier if you only need to go a little bit. That's how I made my adjustments on my Toytec ultimate coil overs. Oh... and general rule is the amount of thread distance you move he collar, multiply that by 2 and that's your lift increase/decrease. I.e. 1/4" of threads will be ~1/2" lift.

But mine only have one collar and I don't see a set screw holding it in place either. Tried turning it with cheater bar but it didn't feel right and was twisting the shock, got scared of breaking the weld at the bottom.

There is no locking collar on that version so your just moving the adjusting collar. It can be quite difficult to get moving, after that it's better. I do remember thinking the same thing when I adjusted mine. Spray it heavily with penetrating lube and let it sit for a day or so.
Remember to have the weight off the vehicle and it's much easier with the wheel off.
