Toytec Coil Over lift kits...

I'm just about to pull the trigger on ordering a lift kit for my '98 limited. I'm looking mainly at the Toytec Ultimate Coilover kit and the BOSS Coil over system.

Anyone have any experience with both, or good input on the difference between them. I plan on this being a daily driver rig, but also taken of road a couple times a month. I'll be running 285/70-17 Duratracs.

Any input on any other lifts I should consider?

I've heard they are both good. If it was me I would piece it together since that will save you at least $300.

I actually just ordered the ultimate lift kit for my 98. I haven't received it yet, but I can tell you as far as I know they're currently out of stock on the BOSS kit for 3rd gens. Not sure how soon you plan on pulling the trigger but they have a 10-15% discount going on right now until December 2nd.

I just installed a brand new Toytec Ultimate lift kit with the Toytec coilovers (not the BOSS coilovers) with toytec superflex coils in the rear at the end of July 2013. When I installed the lift, I also through on new wheels and tires - 285/75/16 Duratracs.

I use my runner as a DD and drive about 50+ miles to work everyday.

I wanted a setup to perform great on and off road, because my original setup was getting extremely rough on road.

Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase and setup. The coilovers feel great in the front, and the superflex coils feel great in the rear. I absolutely love the Duratracs as well. I had a set of duratracs on before I went with a bigger size to compensate the lift. I am pretty sure I will run duratracs from here on out. Have only good experiences with them. I travel to the snow a lot and they grip great in the snow and rain.

Toytec was super easy to work with as well.

Hope this helps make your decision a little easier! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Helped me a lot, thanks. This is the setup I'm going with, and I have almost the exact same distance to and from work every day. How much lift did you gain?

Any MPG change? And like the other guy asked, what lift did you gain? If I get it, I'm looking at a 2" lift. Probably 906.

Also op, toytec has the ultimate kit on sale for $875 right now! Normally its 1029.

Well considering I went from almost stock (had fabtech coilovers up front, but they were not adjusted to provide lift, more for comfort, and all stock in the rear), I gained a noticeable amount of lift. Unfortunately, I did not take actual measurments to be able to tell you the specific gains. But I also added a 1" body lift at the same time so that helped too. Honestly, I think I would have preferred the look better without the body lift, but I am too lazy to take the body lift out now, and it does provide an aggressive look.

Yes, I did notice MPG loss, and power loss(from the larger tires). I have a supercharger so I am not sure exactly how much that affects the setup. I use a ScanGuage II to monitor the MPG (not religiously, just like to see the avg) and I was close to 22 mpg before the lift going to work, and now with the lift and bigger tires, I am around 19-20 on a good day.

Again, I wish I took actual measurements to be able to tell you exactly how much I gained, but if you are looking for around 2", do NOT go with the superflex coils as they are closer to 4" in the rear. The coilovers are clearly adjustable so you can play with those to match the 906's or whatever you decide to go with in the rear. I think that from stock, with the suspension lift, plus BL, plus bigger tires...I probably gained close to 5-6" in the rear and 4-5" in the front. Yes I do have a noticable rake right now, but I did not adjust the coilovers when I put them on. I will be putting an aftermarket front bumper on next so when I do, I will raise the coilovers to level out with the rear.

Hope that helps guys, let me know if you have any more questions!

Roguestatus1688, you have the EXACT setup that I have on order, including e the 1" body lift. Do you have pictures of it installed that you could post? I'm really curious to see just how much lift it all provides as well. I have the same plan as you, to adjust the coilovers once I get an aftermarket front bumper.
Thanks a lot,

-Sean

OK so here are a few before and after pictures.
The first two pictures are before photos, and the rest are the after photos. You can clearly see that the is a visible rake in the after pictures, but mind you, I did not adjust the coilovers at all from factory settings (which I believe is preset to give 2" of lift and they can go to 3.5"). I will be increasing the lift when the bumper goes on. The last picture is to show how the superflex coils handle a significant amount of weight for the rear. I had the two bike and the yakima rack which together is probably close to 125 lbs, plus a bunch of bags and equipment in the back.

Wow that looks great! Mine is a desert dune as well, and I have a set of matte black scs f5 wheels also on order, so those pics give me a great idea of how it's going to look. Those fj trd wheels sure are purty...

Thanks again!

No problem, happy to help! Good luck getting everything together and installed!

I was told by Toytec that the shocks in the Boss kit are rebuildable, that being a main difference between the two, but that otherwise they're very similar in performance. He also stated that the Boss kit is back ordered for the last month and has been very popular lately. I wonder why?

How important should the ability to rebuild the shocks be to me?

The Toytec coilovers 'usually' come set at 3" of front lift just so you know.

I just bought a set of the BOSS coilovers and this was the main reason that I went with them over the Ultimate. I like the fact that they are rebuildable and they have a beefier shock. Also I was told that the BOSS are built more for off road use.

They are are still on back order for a couple more weeks as well. I was told 2-3 weeks yesterday.

Anybody with remote reservoirs have pics of how theirs is mounted? Toytec provided instructions on how to install the bump spacer but not the remote reservoir
