TOYTEC Discounts

Are there any Toytec Discounts for being a forum member? I'm thinking about taking my totally stock 06 that is in need of some suspension TLC and adding one of their kits. I've also picked out some Level 8 MK6 wheels in Bronze with the KO2s. Not sure on the sizing yet but I was thinking about 285/70/r17, but the 275 option isn't out of the question just yet. This is my daily and to be honest it will spend most of it's time on level roads and the last thing I want is any rubbing issues. Any information is greatly appreciated.

If you plan on ever going off road I would steer away from anything TT offers with a rubber lower bushing on the struts. I.E. The BOSS kit.

The BOSS 2.0 rides majestically down the road and trail. But thats because its private labeled for TT by another mfg.

I called Toytec to order my lift kit, and they gave me $50 off my order for being a T4R member. So yeah, 5% is accurate.

I did it know that. Makes me glad I got the BOSS 2.0!

Are there known issues?

Are there known issues?

I don't know what "known" means exactly. I mean... I know that theres issues. And i've tried to let other people know that there are issues. According to the tech guys at TT, they more or less know its an issue but won't address it.

The rubber bushings don't last. I went through 3 sets. The 3rd set lasted 3 weeks.

Look at every other coil over on the market. Do they have rubber bushings or spherical heims? This is HUGE. I can't emphasize how big of a deal this is.

Also look at how the BOSS adjusts. You have to take the wheel off to adjust the collar because they're at the bottom of the strut.
Look at every other mfg.... adjustment collar is at the top. No takey wheel off.

It's great for mall crawling. But it doesn't hold up to washboard or rocky trails, wheeling. I could post photos in here that would freak ya'll out.

Really its the bushing. It's a poor design and the bushing is the weak link. Toyota engineer's designed the strut to work with that bushing for a OEM suspension. The valving and spring rate on the BOSS is not the same, and the bushing compresses when the shock should. So the rubber in the bushing gets obliterated.

Oh and unless you want to put the BOSS back on your truck, don't expect a lot of support from TT. I had a strut completely destroy itself as a direct result of the bushing BS and they only offered 10% off an upgraded product.
Gee thanks for the support TT. I bought your suspension and pulled my struts 4 times to press in more lame bushings, plus the cost of bushings, and you're gonna offer me 10%?

No thanks. Way way better options out there for a little more coin.

i wheel the piss out of mine with the boss 2.0s on it and while yes the bushing is beat up its not obliterated, and as far as i can tell its not a huge issue. one thing i have noticed is that im starting to get a leak out of one of mine with only like 30K or so miles on it. im not sure what i want to change it out to but it wont be the boss 2.0 just because i know there are coilovers with a better valving set up and 10x easier adjustment.

Interesting. I Googled 'Boss bushing failures' a few different ways and didn't come up with anything other than rear upper failures (which was corrected I guess in 2015).

Eibach makes the shocks for Toytec. I can see the front lower bushing is hard rubber on this Boss kit I haven't installed yet, and I can see how a heim would be better. I saw good reviews for the Boss from Tacoma owners and the front lower bushings are in good shape on my '07 after 10k miles but only maybe 1k miles offroad.

The lower shock mounts, you're supposed to wait until the tires are on the ground to torque them to the full 90ft/lbs. Torqueing them with the truck on jackstands can lead to premature failure from what I've read.

In any case, that's something to consider for someone going the cheaper route with a Boss kit.
