Ok installing the toytec 3" complete kit and now I figure out the front sway bar is going to rub. I see relocation kits available for 03 and up 4runners. Whats my course of action here? Thanks!

throw the sway bars in the trash. and that goes for both of them. regardless if they rub. If something rubs it you have something bent. i have never heard of such a thing.

03+ are a different animal. You don't need to relocate the anti-sway bar.

I will tell you that the rear swaybar can limit the amount of droop. Some of us have extended the rear links. SS takes a different approach and sells relocation blocks that raise the rear swaybar off the axle. Some have used a set of the front links on the rear. I have seen the frame mounts get yanked off from the force of the axle droop on the stock links.

X2 on there being no rubbing unless somethings bent. Take that sucker off if it does! The stiffer setup you're putting on will help keep the body roll down some anyhow. Let's see some picks when you're finished! :hungry:

Thanks guys, the front bar is removed now. Still drives fine, not quite as quick at turnes but it not made for corner carving anyhow.
The suspension set-up is pretty much awesome. Takes the bumps and crevases like a champ now. Looks great too with the exception of the front wheels. The tops of the tires stick out more than the bottom.. so the front looks like this: \----/ Now what? haha control arms? Ill have pic and what not up tommorow but Ill be putting them up in my build thread.

I'd hold onto the sway bar just for the halibut. I have a toytec 3" lift w/2" body lift, front arb w/winch, heavy skids and didn't have a sway bar on mine when I got it. I always felt a little tentative driving it with the body roll. Just picked up a used front sway bar, poly bushings and bushing blocks. Don't have too much seat time with this set up, but feels much more solid in the turns. No not going to run out and auto-x it, but feels more confident on the street. IMO

hey guys. I needed to revive this thread for those of you that have installed some coilovers up front. I was going to order the Boss Toytec kit but they are on back order and I'm one that likes instant gratification. So I found i can get some brand new Sway-A-Way 2.5's for about the same price as the Boss kit.
Is it really necessary to relocate the front sway bar when you have the bigger diameter coilovers up front? Do any of you that still run the front sway bar have any issues with rubbing?
I don't want to take sway bar off because I honestly think it's very dangerous with the extra body roll. I don't really need any droop or major flex for the type of off-roading that i do. thanks guys!

No. That is just the 4th and 5th gens that need to relocate the sway bar. Even with a 3" diameter coil you do not have to relocate the sway bar on the 3rd gens.

I removed my front sway bar and ran without it for about 3+ years; this was just after I installed my SS 1.2 kit.
Eventually I noticed that my truck had A LOT of lean when going around corners. It was quite dangerous feeling. I even had a new steering rack so it wasn't that.
Last summer, about 3+ years after the removal I decided to re-install the sway bar with some extended links from StickFigure. On the same day I also re-did my rear shocks which had < 40k miles on them (same shock just new).
I expected a difference but wow ... what a difference. It handled great and at the time I attributed 90% of the new stiffness around corners to installing the sway bar. I did the shocks as a precaution since I would be down there anyways.
That was about 6 months ago. I have been driving around quite happy with the new shocks + sway bar ever since.
Update to about 3 weeks ago when I removed the front sway bar links to go off roading in Coral Canyon near San Diego. I removed them in my driveway and drove about 1.5 hours out to the trail. Then I left the sway bar off for a week before putting it back on.
TO MY SURPRISE ... this time the truck had nowhere near as much lean around corners as it did before I replaced the shocks and installed the sway bar back on. So to recap: sway bar is now off and the truck doesn't lean as much as before ...
So what does this mean? It means the shocks wore out with less than 40k miles on them by running without a sway bar. Now they were not totally* worn out but enough so that I could notice the difference around turns.
The shocks were Toyota LC rear shocks from my SS kit. I highly doubt they should have gone bad (loose) after only a few years under normal usage BUT they were far looser feeling than new shocks.
My current theory is that by removing the front sway bar I put additional stress on the shocks and they went bad far sooner than expected. To me this makes sense since the 4Runner was never designed to be run without a sway bar and shortened shock life is plausible side affect of removing it.

Makes sense everything with suspension works together to prolong the life of products. So naturally your going to have a shorter lifespan on some components. It is kinda like a trade off.
