Toytec Ultimate Installed on '98.

So I was sick (cough cough) yesterday and HAD to take the day off. While recovering, I decided what the heck, I'll go ahead and install the Ultimate lift that I received in the mail on Monday....I was going to wait beacause Pikeman and proudrunner offered to help, but the scheduling was probably going to push the install back at least three weeks.

There's already write ups on how to install it so I'll skip the details. I ran into a number of the issues that are already out there, mainly getting the rear shocks off. Driver side came right off, but the passenger side required the sawzall method. Also getting the rear sway bar back on, I couldn't get the hole/bolt lined up, required a phone call to Pikeman. His recommendation of putting a ratchet strap/motorcycle tie down on it and ratcheting it down solved my dilemma.

I have a little rake, I think that's what it is called, from back to front. The rear is currently 3/4" higher than the front but will wait for things to settle before adjusting the front. I haven't gotten an alignment yet, it drives straight as an arrow, but will probably get one just because I see it is recommended.

So I'm pretty stoked about the whole thing. The ride has definitely improved but want to wait and see how it goes in the long run.

Order of other planned mods:
Rock sliders
Rear bumper w/tire carrier.
Skid Plates
Front bumper

Yeah, I really appreciate the offers and having you guys there with the experience would have made it alot easier, faster, and probably more enjoyable overall. But....I got a little antsy and didn't want to wait the three weeks. I'm sure you understand. I did have to reach out to Pikeman via phone for some tips. I'm sure I'll be meeting you soon though and I'm looking forward to it. Oh, and thanks agian for the info you provided prior to me purchasing the lift.

They are 265/75's...

Thanks for the compliments folks....I'm super happy with how it looks. I also noticed a lot fewer squeaks. I'm still in the "was that a weird noise? did something fall off?" stage because I did the install myself, but I think everything is good to go. I have to go out there and check/retighten everything again after driving it today.

99yotarunner, good luck on your install. Do you have anyone helping you? That would make things go way faster!

:reddance:yeah my buddy is helping me in his garage, this sat cant wait to get it on, man even with the lift 285s look like there going to rub a lil, glad im going with 4 crwler 2" body lift also, i like the look of a open fender well.

Where your front coils preset for 3i inches of lift? or did you crank them up a lil? mine look like there preset so im not sure guess when i put them on we will see..

The documentation with the lift states the front coilovers are set at 2 inches of lift. I left them there. From my measurements (before and after) the front was lifted about 2 3/4 inches. That extra could be based on the fact the original suspension was shot or something. I have 180k miles and have no idea when/if the suspension was ever re-done because I bought it used.

The diff drop, which was the easiest part of the whole process, came with the Ultimate kit. Panhard drop? Didn't do it and at this point I don't even know what that is. Is it necessary?

Another thing I should have done is put like a 1 inch body lift on it. I guess I'll be doing that soon.....

I dont have a BL on mine as of yet and with 285's I get a little rub when off-roading but not much. a 1" bl should fix that. Flyte I will educate you on the Panhard drop bracket and or adjustable panhard bar when we meet this weekend. Glad my suggestion worked for you to rachet that over.

That's a nice looking rig you have there! How do you like the Ultimate Lift so far? Are you running 890's or 891's in the rear?

Thanks. The ride has definitely improved iwith the new suspension and I really like how it looks. I went with 890's in the rear. I was going to go with 891's but I rarely carry enough load for those. I do a lot of camping, but my backpack with everything I need for a week in it usually weighs no more than 30lbs, so I wouldn't need the 891's for that!
