Toytec Ultimate vs Toytec/Bilstein setup

How do you like those 5160's? What advantage's do they have?

The back end is a fair bit stiffer, and I managed to get about 3" of lift when paired with the taller ome 889 springs. Remote reservoir shocks have a higher oil capacity and better heat dissipation characteristics over a single tube shock, therefore they will resist fade under heavy use. The 5160 specifically has longer-than-stock travel, a larger gas chamber, and are user rebuildable.

When i called toytec, they said that i would need extended rear brake lines for the bilstein 5100 3/2 lift kit. He said extended lines were not needed in the front. Is this correct?

hmm.. they never suggested that to me.. and as far as i know, my rear brakes are fine....... although, it wouldn't hurt

If you don't plan on adjusting it, go for the 5100s and LR UCAs. You'll be really happy. I believe Toytec ships the kit pre-assembled and set for a 3" lift. So, it should be pretty much plug and play for you. Toytec had great customer service, so you can always PM them or call if you have any questions.

might as well resurrect this thread to ask a few questions.

I currently have 5100's on all 4 corners set to 2.5" up front and daystar spacer in the rear. Alignment is about 1.9 caster on both sides and a bit squirrely on the highway. Been back for another alignment at an alignment specific shop with no better luck. Soooo....LR UCA's are going in. Figured I'd take out the spacer in the rear while I was at it for the superflex coils...now for my question. If I go with Toytec's coilover kit...the one that takes my 5100's to basically the Ultimate, will the ride quality be better (assuming I kept the lift at 2.5")? The coils don't provide the lift on this kit, right? So essentially the perch will be at the same height?

hey guys.. I've tried searching with no answers unless i missed something.. I'm going to be lifting my truck sooner or later and I'm interested in the Toytec Ultimate kit... as i was looking around doing my homework.. i realized that the Toytec/Bilstein combo is pretty much the same exact kit.. The ONLY difference i see is that the Ultimate lift kit can be raised/lowered using the spanner wrenches like a traditional coil over design like those from lowered cars. but the Toytec/Bilstein combo has to be raised using the C clips from what I've read... Is that really the ONLY difference? I'm not sure that it's worth spending the extra $300 for the Ultimate now that I'm realizing this! :behindsofa:

can someone chime in and let me know if there are any other differences? i appreciate any input!!

soooo im guessing you went with the toytec/bilstein combo? how do you like it?? awesome thread. learned a lot! going with the toyotec/bilstein just for the simple fact that i don't plan on adjusting ride height, nor will i do any extreme off roading and last but not least the price point! i don't see myself using coil overs to its full potential and if i ever needed to, toyotec sells the boss front coils separately, so ill just buy it if i ever needed it

Yes, I went with the toytec/bilstein combo. Sorry for never getting back to this.. I've added LR uca's and a sonoran steel adjustable panhard bar.

FYI, I installed jba uca and the toytec ultimate with the bilsteins 5100 yesterday. It took 4 hours 15min, 2 people, and 1 jack to get it done. Ended up with 3inches higher in the front and 3.25 inches higher in the rear.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread... I currently have the Bilstein 5100's all around with Toytec 112-620 front springs. What is the max I can lift without needing new UCA's and keeping it on a low budget? Daystar spacers seem to be a good budget option, but would I need new UCA's?

Bilstein 3 lift

This lift seems to be spot on for a 3" lift. I am new to lifting a 4runner. I picked up a 2013 4Runner TE with 60k miles. All the information you all are talking about is helpful.

Can someone more intelligent than me explain the real world in-use difference between the Toytec Boss and Toytec Boss Performance?

I'll never go "muddin" as we called it when I was a kid in the south (at least not when there's a path around it), rock crawling, or 70mph desert racing (although I will take it in the desert).

I personally have no first hand experience with ToyTec. From what I have read they just repackage stuff thats already on the market. I thought they were just rebranded Eiback hardware. From people I have talked to in CO the Boss products ride a little stiff.

If you are not beating the piss out of them, or if you are, do you really need something rebuildable?

It sounds like you are doing the same light to medium fire roads like me. Maybe something like a 6112/5160 or 6112/5100 would work well and same you some coin.

I see you are also here in CO. Have gone over to Slee Off-Road in Golden. They are super honest and sell just about everything. They can give you lots of real world local advice. They talked to me for almost 2 hours and I didn't buy a thing

Performance kit has 2.5" shocks with 7/8" shafts vs the regular Boss kit with 2" and 5/8" shafts
Performance kit has the option for either 650 or 700 lb springs, regular Boss kit comes with 650lb
Performance kit has the option for either 2" or 2.5" rear shock bodies, regular Boss kit comes with 2"

both kits are fairly expensive for what you are actually getting, but lots of guys run it.

Each shock has a 200 psi gas charge and is dyno’d before it ships

how do you "dyno" a shock? this is just a marketing buzz word.

and...

TIG welded spanner wrenches are included for easy adjustment.

why is does this need to be welded? every coilover wrench I've ever used is just a one-piece stamped part, no welding required. sounds like another useless buzz word to entice the uninitiated

Thanks. I do plan on putting a C4 fab lo pro bumper and winch and eventually a second battery. I want about a 2" lift in the front and whatever it takes to bring it level in the rear. That's why I was looking at the performance b/c of the 2.5" coilover seeming to be a better long term option.

I am looking for a step up from the bilstein shocks but not looking to spend the money for icon or king set up.
I thought toytec would be a good idea b/c they are CO based if i have issues.

I do plan to talk to RSG and Slee as soon as i put my order in for the T4R.
I was actually hoping to wait for a 2018, partially to have the newest possible model but also so i could get all my tools out of the garage. But I'm going to have to start spending money on keeping my current vehicle on the road and i have no desire to throw money away.

If you're asking why I'm figuring all this out for a car I don't own... I'm a project manager - anal retentiveness is in my nature.
