Tacoma transmitters should work with our '10 4Runners, Toyota uses Pacific sensors on all - except Tundra, Sequoia, and Sienna,, which use TRW.
The key to having two sets of wheels is being able to introduce the new set of TPMS sensors whenever the wheels are swapped.. Some tire shops will have the necessary equipment to register the new sensors, of course your dealer can do it. It will just be a matter of $$.
I've been searching for information on the OBDII protocols that will allow self access to this and other stuff via a PC to OBD or DLC3....

The 5th gen only accepts 4. So, yes you'd have to register each time you swap.-IF you want them monitored - I know that it can be done be either the OBD interface or the DLC.
I'm thinking the right fix is to just pull the bulb and forget the system. Somehow I've managed to operate for a lot a years with warning lights and bells.
So in other words, it really isn't worth it to buy 4 extra TPM sensors for 4 custom wheels/new tires that I'm going to run in the late spring, summer, and early fall. Then remove the custom wheel/tire combination, and run the OEM 17" x 7" wheels/tires for the winter. Because, I would have to go to a Toyota dealer after switching, EVERY time, and pay the dealer EVERY time that I swap wheel/tire combo.
Am I understanding this correctly ?
How much does it cost at the dealership ?
If there isn't a constant chime while running wheels without TPM sensors, and just an idiot light on the dash lit up, I have no problem covering the idiot light with a piece of black tape.

A programming of four different IDs is required each time you swap between the different sets of wheels. It would cost you between half an hour to an hour's worth of shop time, so I'd imagine at least $40.
On the 4th, there's no chime or noise from it. IIRC, solid light when low on air and flashing when there's a malfunction within the system.
