TPMS from SE wheels on LTD and vice versa?

mpower3 and I am currently discussing a trade of our wheels and we were wondering if our TPMS would be a direct swap? His mechanic said that sometimes it is and sometimes it isnt but when it isnt, it's a real pain.

Does anyone know?

you can take the individual sensors out and swap the wheels keeping your own sensors and still trading wheels

The sensors have an ID number that's programmed to the truck.

Some tire shops have the capabilities to program the sensors.

if both wheels are sensor compatible, which they obviously are you just keep you sensors and switch wheels. i work at discount tire, i got my facts straight man. good luck with the trade.

thanks for the info guys! this might be tricker than we thought at first. Now we definitely have to find a shop with 2 open liftbays on a saturday since all the tires will need to be dismounted to swap the sensors. This also prevents us from just swapping ourselves and then driving to different shops for alignments. Hopefully we end up working it out!

Just got off the phone with my guy at toyota and he said they can be reprogrammed, or at least to try first. He said that all 4 wheels have a matching # that is programmed into our trucks. We can read the code on both trucks and then reprogram mine with his code and his with my code. Then, the wheels should work.

Thoughts on this?

yes that will work, don't forget about your spare it has a sensor as well.

yea, we will be swapping spares also. I could "forget" about the spare in that they all have the same code so all that matters is taking the code off his computer and programming it into mine. Then, all of his 5 wheels will work with my truck (and my 5 with his after reprogramming his computer with the code that was in mine)
