Several months ago the CEL (Check Engine Light) came on with a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) code. I cleared it several times but it came back. There were no symptoms of a TPS problem besides the CEL.
I bought a TPS from O'Reilly's and installed it. It lasted about 300 miles before it started making the the truck buck on the highway and stumble at slow speed. The TPS number on my Scan Gauge II would jump around even when I held the gas pedal steady. The problems were worse with the cruise on.
O'Reilly's replaced the TPS under warranty and accused me of installing the first one incorrectly. The 2nd one is better, but still seems to hiccup occasionally.
Questions:
1. Is there a better TPS to buy? Maybe a dealership part? Is there an online source to order the better part from?
2. When the transmission downshifts to 3rd at highway speed, it sometimes holds the gear for 60 seconds, even going down hill. It has done this since I've had it. Is this normal?
