TRAC OFF problem

My check engine light is on (not flashing)

TRAC OFF is on &

green silhouette of suv is flashing. (all on driver information center)

This is what caused it :

I applied the brakes going down a steep concrete driveway & skid a couple of inches. Put it in reverse, applied some throttle and the rear wheels hopped then caught traction & spun just a brief second while backing up.

Drove away, & then the above lights lit up on my DIC.

Any thoughts on what happened ? This is a 2019 TRD Off Road.

I am still under warranty for another month + a few weeks.

Maybe start checking all your fuses? google which fuse might be related to the trac off? thats a start but if youre under warrant you can have the dealer deal with it. good luck!
or if you know anyone with a scan tool, they can scan and see if its throwing any codes?

I got a buddy with a Snap-On scan tool & he wants to check it tomorrow.

My only question, If he plugs it into the port, & clears the code, then a few miles down the road all the idiot lights come back on, Will the dealer deny my warranty because my friend used his scanner to clear the codes ?

no the dealer will have no idea you scanned unless you tell them but they still wouldnt deny warranty.

No, but it may make it more difficult for the dealer to diagnose the problem.

So would it be best if he plugs in the scanner & NOT clear anything, & I will just write down the code # & then make an appointment at the dealer ?

Abs sensor might be acting up or dirty.

yes so the dealer can scan as well and pick up the code if its covered under warranty. There are times where it could be a one time fault and once cleared its good. Scan it and do some research on it

My guess is you have some DTCs related to a traction control system fault or something the vehicle didn't like when you "lost control" (from the vehicle's perspective).

We get them when we run the vehicles on the lift sometimes, they don't like it and will set speed sensor codes or oddball DTCs.

In regards to warranty? Shouldn't be an issue, if they come back they'll just diagnose them as best as possible, if you're honest about the situation; they shouldn't give you too much crap. We get the occasional vehicle in where they slid on some gravel or loose stuff and it confused the systems in the car; usually just clear codes and tell them to monitor it (assuming DTCs didn't come back on confirmation test drive.)

You could pull codes manually at the dlc. Look for any codes related to the skid control ECU inputs.. and troubleshoot from there. You can also clear codes via DLC if you desire. May be a good idea to write them all down first if you do this.

I would have your buddy scan for the DTCS, record what you find and if you feel like it erase them. Worst case they come back after you test drive it a bit and you need to take it to the dealer anyways.

If you want you can post what you find here and we can give you a rough idea if they're problematic or not.

Thank You so much. I was worried that if we scan & clear the codes that the dealer might try & say that I did something that I shouldn't have & possibly try to not fix it under warranty.

At most they may give you a "we're not sure if we can diagnose your vehicle" but they shouldn't deny any warranty repair.

Update !

While driving around today with multiple start/stops, I NO longer have any idiots lights on the DIC.

I assume either the vehicle cleared the codes from multiple ignition key cycles OR the "all day rain" while driving washed some dirt/mud off of a sensor or something else.

The good news is, that its fine.

Likely whatever ABS system related DTCs cleared themselves after a couple key cycles and self checks after driving.

About 10 years ago I was sitting at the credit union drive through, engine idling and foot on the brake. Without moving, about 3-4 warning lights came up on the dash board. It drove okay but I took it to the dealership. They said it was the O2 sensor, they replaced it, reset the lights and no warning lights (other than low tire pressure) ever came back.

If it was me I'd take it in before the warranty expired and let them check out the codes. Replacing the O2 sensor was expen$ive
